brcc-headerSharyn McCrumb, a New York Times bestselling author, will close out the Appalachian Heritage Arts Series at Blue Ridge Community College with a lecture on Tuesday, October 14, at 12:45 p.m. in the Plecker Center auditorium.

An award-winning Southern writer, McCrumb is best known for her Appalachian “Ballad” novels, including bestsellers The Ballad of Frankie Silver and She Walks These Hills.

“My books are like Appalachian quilts,” says McCrumb. “I take brightly colored scraps of legends, ballads, fragments of rural life, and local tragedy, and I piece them together into a complex whole that tells not only a story, but also a deeper truth about the culture of the mountain South.”

The event, funded by a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts, is free and open to the public. For more information, contact the Public Relations Office at (540) 453-2358.
