Braun Strowman heel turn: Hey, WWE is at least trying

Braun StrowmanThe match with new WWE Universal champ Roman Reigns teaming with “Monster in the Bank” Braun Strowman to face Dolph Ziggler and Drew McIntyre made no sense on its own.

A heel turn had to be coming, and it was.

WWE continues to try to put Reigns over with fans, with Strowman, the company’s hottest superstar, the latest to play the foil.

The effort also includes having Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose wearing their Shield gear to aid Reigns, though all that has done is put heat on the otherwise over Rollins and Ambrose.

I still don’t get why Reigns isn’t himself over with fans, but, whatever, he’s not.

At the risk of trying to write the show in this column, I do feel compelled to throw out there that I don’t like the move to have Strowman use his MITB contract to challenge Reigns at the upcoming Hell in a Cell live WWE Network event.

The MITB contract is pro wrestling’s best prop, and it’s not even close. The notion that the holder of the briefcase can challenge a champ at any place, any time, adds an edge to literally every live show.

For the second straight year, now, the contract is being wasted early in the wrestling year sans drama, as you remember how last year’s contract holder, Baron Corbin, cashed in and lost to then-WWE champ Jinder Mahal.

I’m all for getting Strowman and Reigns together, but wouldn’t the heel turn in the tag match at Raw been more than enough to set the match for Hell in a Cell?

But, there I go again, trying to write the show in a web column. Sorry for that.
