James Madison senior forward Denzel Bowles (Virginia Beach, Va./Kempsville) was named the Colonial Athletic Association Player of the Week on Monday.

Bowles led JMU to an 80-73 victory over Marshall on Wednesday by posting a season-high 34 points to go with 13 rebounds. He scored 17 points in each half, hit 13 of his 21 attempts from the field, and went 8-for-10 on free throw opportunities. It was his sixth double-double of the season in 12 games for JMU (9-3) as well as the 18th of his career.

Bowles surpassed 30 points for the fourth time in his career, matching current assistant coach Louis Rowe for sixth in career 30-point games. He also posted his second career game with 30 points and 10 boards (37 & 15, 12/17/09 at Gardner-Webb). The 34 points also tied for 14th for most points in a game by a JMU player.

It was the second CAA honor of the season for Bowles, who was also named CAA Co-Player of the Week on Nov. 29. For the season, he ranks third in the CAA in scoring with 18.6 points per game, fourth in rebounding with 8.8 boards per game, and first in field-goal percentage at .622 (12th nationally).
