Book Sale to benefit Waynesboro Library

Velma Ryan doesn’t know exactly how they come across the copy of the Federalist Papers that was published in 1818.

“It’s in need of some light repair,” said Ryan, delicately holding the copy of the book that is up for sale at the upcoming Friends of the Waynesboro Public Library BookBoo Sale.

The estimated value on the piece of American history is $2,000. The Book Sale price is listed at $750.

The Sept. 22-25 Book Sale is a key fundraiser for the Friends of the Library, which raised $10,000 from last year’s Book Sale, and regularly donates in the neighborhood of $15,000 to the library for book purchases and to help cover the costs of library programming.

The Friends are also contributing $100,000 toward the renovation of the library that is scheduled to get under way in November.

In addition to historic books like the nearly two-century-old copy of the Federalist Papers, the items up for sale next week will include an array of children’s books and large-print books ideal for senior readers.
