Under the direction of Evan Moritz, a graduate of James Madison University, Beowulf: An Epic Play combines live acting, puppetry and an innovative set design to performance creates a philosophical and psychedelic world that the legendary hero must endure. The show is the brain child of The Baltimore Annex Theatre, a DIY non-profit theatre on its first tour of the U.S. In addition to this recent tour, the company has produced many plays at its warehouse space back in Baltimore, hosting such groups as The Missoula Oblongata, Wham City and Bedlam Theatre.
Beowulf: An Epic Play marks the start of the programming season under Noah McBrayer Jones, the new Court Square Theater Manager. Jones hopes to give the performing arts branch of the Arts Council of the Valley a diverse feel with a uniform pattern, leveraging live music, theater and dance along with the Theater’s history of independent and foreign film viewings to create a set schedule for the audience. Court Square Theater received generous in-kind support donations from Servpro of Harrisonburg/Rockingham County, Stonewall Jackson Inn, and Clementine Café for this production.
