The Augusta County Board of Supervisors announced the selection of James R. Benkahla as County Attorney.
As County Attorney, Benkahla serves as the principal legal advisor to the Board of Supervisors and the County Administrator. In addition to supervising the activities of the County Attorney’s office, Benkahla will provide legal support for the Board of Zoning Appeals, Planning Commission, and the Economic Development Authority.
Benkahla has substantial experience in both public and private practice and most recently served as legal counsel for Spotsylvania County for 10 years.
Benkahla holds both a bachelor of science degree in psychology and a bachelor of business administration from Radford University. Benkahla completed the Virginia Law Reader Program in 1996. Mr. Benkahla serves as a member of the Virginia State Bar and the Local Government Attorneys of Virginia.
Carolyn Bragg, Chair of the Augusta County Board of Supervisors, said Benkahla “is an excellent fit for the County. Mr. Benkahla’s work as Interim County Attorney since August has been exceptional, and the Board looks forward to a working with him in the future.”
