Bridgewater College has begun a public campaign to raise millions of dollars for endowed scholarships, academic enhancement, facilities improvements, laboratories and more.
Harrisonburg lawyer Nathan H. Miller is serving as the chair of the $40 million capital campaign. Miller is a 1965 alum of Bridgewater College.
“This campaign is a wonderful opportunity to make a lasting contribution to something truly good,” Miller said. “The young adults we educate at Bridgewater College leave with values, integrity and a strong work ethic, as well as important skills for succeeding in whatever life they choose. We can never measure the lasting contributions they make in their communities or their professions, but we know they make a difference.”
The campaign got under way with a silent campaign that commenced in July 2004. The public campaign will extend through 2010.
The campaign has already raised more than $20 million toward the $40 million goal – with $2 million coming from 1962 Bridgewater alum Yancey Ford and his wife, Peggy, and a $1.5 million gift from The Fred O. Funkhouse Foundation.
The campaign is seeking $11 million for endowed scholarships; $10 million for academic enhancement; $10 million to improve facilities; $3 million for laboratories, equipment and information technology; and $6 million for the Bridgewater Fund.
“Generous alumni, parents and friends will play a critical role in perpetuating our transformational and mission-driven style of education,” Bridgewater president Phillip C. Stone said.
