Battlefields Foundation hosts Civil War miniseries producer
SVBF has invited Beckner and his production team to the Valley to discuss the prospect of filming segments of the much anticipated miniseries on one or more of the SVBF’s battlefield properties. Beckner and his team will arrive in Winchester on June 8, where they will begin a series of battlefield site tours lasting throughout the week.
“I could not be more pleased with this battlefield preservation opportunity” stated SVBF Chief Executive Officer, Keven Walker. “These times call for innovative funding measures and we believe this arrangement has the potential to be of great benefit to the SVBF, our partners, and the people of the Valley.” If realized, hosting the filming on SVBF’s battlefields will support local economic development, heritage tourism, and SVBF’s core mission of battlefield preservation.
To Appomattox will be a 10-part television miniseries about “the emotional lives of America’s Civil War generals, their wives and families – from West Point to Appomattox – against a backdrop of a war.”
Michael Beckner’s major big-screen success came with the Universal Pictures’s Tony Scott-directed film of Beckner’s script, “Spy Game,” starring Robert Redford and Brad Pitt. The release of that film coincided with the debut of Beckner’s CBS series, “The Agency”. The pilot of “The Agency” holds the distinction of being the only dramatic series ever allowed to film at CIA Headquarters in Langley, Virginia.
Beckner’s recent writing credits include: “CSI: Crime Scene Investigators” (CBS) and “Gold Fever” (Discovery), and he is currently preparing the “Spy Game” prequel “Muir’s Gambit” for production. He has also adapted his novel “Berlin Mesa” into a 4 hour mini-series for AMC.
As a personality and commentator on American espionage, Beckner has appeared on CNN, Fox New, TF1 in France, and was a featured guest on Bill Maher’s “Politically Incorrect.” As a Civil War speaker, he has spoken at universities and to private organizations on the history behind his upcoming Civil War Event Mini-Series “To Appomattox.”
