Bath Senior Center: What’s going on

The fall foliage is turning and the leaves are falling – it is certainly beautiful in the mountains where the Bath Senior Center is ready for October!

Hi, I’m Jeanne Apgar, the Center director. We are open Monday, Wednesday and Thursday from 9 a.m. to 1p.m.  We serve a hot lunch at 11:30 each day. There are exercises or Wii daily and a special Over 60 program of workouts for Seniors on Thursdays at 10:15 am at the Bath Wellness Center in Mitchelltown.

This Thursday, Oct. 6, will kick-off our 2011-2012 new season. If you are over 60 and a Bath resident, you can join us for free at the Wellness Center. This program is sponsored by the Bath Parks and Recreation, and you do not need to be a Senior Center member to join. Just show up and join in the fun and fitness with us.

We finished our Walk Across America last month and will be staying in Denver, Colo., where our walk ended … until next year when we start again to walk with pedometers! The winners were Janet Offenbacker, Nancy Johnson, Mabel Neff and Katie Smith.

We recently returned from our yearly overnight trip. We went to Wytheville and enjoyed the production “Hello Dolly” at the Wolfhaus Dinner Theater. We visited the African American Time that History Forgot Training Cultural Center and Tour. The rest of the time was spent shopping and antique malls hopping … can’t forget good eating, we did a lot of that! A good time was had by all 20 seniors who attended.

On Wednesday, Oct. 5, we will visit at the Highland Senior Center and enjoy lunch together followed by a little shopping in Monterey.

Monday the 10th we will have a genealogy program with Connie Metheny and work on our Family trees.

We will be closed on Wed. the 12th for a staff meeting.

Monday, Oct. 17 is Blood Pressure Screening and peanut butter facts. There will be a flu shot program as soon as the Bath Health Dept. is ready for us.

Oct. 15 begins the new Open Enrollment for Medicare D through Dec. 7. If you need help changing your medicine plan please call the Senior Center for an appointment.

Wednesday the 19th is Shopping day at Waynesboro. Sharp Shopper is on the ticket and out to lunch of course.

Monday the 24th will be a Breast Cancer Awareness program followed by a Birthday Celebration, cake and ice cream.

Tuesday the 25th is the Homestead Health Fair and we will be taking a van load to this special event. We will be closed on Wednesday the 26th for this.

Peanut Butter facts and Cranberry nutrition with samples will be the food education for the month.

Monday the 31st will be a Halloween Party . Prizes for the Best Costumes.

We have a wheelchair accessible van on Mondays and another van each day. Call for a ride at 540-839-5604. You can now visit us on the web at www.bathseniorcenter.org.
