Cabrera, pinch-running for Travis Snider, who led off the bottom of the ninth with a single, was still at first base with two outs. Chris Davis, who homered in the seventh to tie the game at 1-1, singled to right off Rays reliever Xavier Cedeno, advancing Cabrera to third.

Tampa Bay starter Nate Karns was solid as well, giving up a lone hit in six scoreless innings, striking out seven and walking two.

Brandon Gomes (1-2) took the loss in relief.

Steven Souza homered in the second for Tampa to give the Rays the early lead.
