Baltimore drops fifth in a row: Drops out of first place

baltimore oriolesToronto put up a seven-spot in the fifth and coasted from there to a 9-1 win over Baltimore on Saturday.

The loss was the fifth in a row for Baltimore (58-45), which now trails the Blue Jays (59-45) by a half-game in the AL East.

Yovani Gallardo (3-3, 5.70 ERA, 1.67 WHIP) was coasting into the fifth, having allowed just two hits in four scoreless innings. But the Jays pounded Gallardo and reliever Mychal Givens in the fifth, scoring seven runs on five hits and three O’s walks.

Gallardo took the loss, officially giving up five runs on five hits in four and a third innings, striking out five and walking five.

J.A. Happ (14-3, 3.16 ERA, 1.16 WHIP) got the win for Toronto, giving up a run on three hits in seven innings, striking out 11 and walking three.
