A three-run Steve Clevenger homer was the big blow in a 4-2 Baltimore Orioles win over the Oakland A’s on Monday at Camden Yards, completing a four-game O’s sweep.
Clevenger’s fourth-inning long ball, his first of the season, came after Chris Davis reached on a two-out, nobody-on error in the fourth to extend that inning. Jonathan Schoop followed with a single, and then Clevenger connected off A’s starter Sonny Gray (12-5, 2.04 ERA).
Gray was charged with four runs, one earned, on seven hits in five and two-thirds, striking out five and walking two.
Chris Tillman (9-7, 4.54 ERA) went seven innings for the Orioles, giving up two runs on three hits, striking out three and walking three.
Zach Britton notched his 29th save.
The win moves Baltimore (61-56) to three and a half games back of the New York Yankees in the American League East. The Orioles have a one-game lead over the Los Angeles Angels for the second AL wild-card spot.
