Augusta County Sheriff’s Office searches home of suspect in 2003 murder

augusta countyThe Augusta County Sheriff’s Office is confirming media inquiries in regards to the execution of a search warrant at 53 Spencer Lane in Crimora.

Investigators from the Sheriff’s Office, assisted by the Virginia State Police, the Virginia Department of Emergency Management, Augusta County Fire Rescue and other resources, executed a search warrant at the home of Charles Melvin Spencer on July 20 at 9 a.m.

After an extensive two-day search on the property, all searchers cleared the property on July 21 at 6 p.m.

Charles Melvin Spencer, 69, of Crimora, was arrested on March 7, 2016 for the 2003 murder of his wife, Jo Ann Spencer.

The Sheriff’s Office will not be commenting on the target of the search, or any evidence collected as a result of this search warrant.
