Augusta County Library event celebrates Flag Day

flag2At 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 14, Augusta County Library will celebrate Flag Day with Flags on Tour at the Fishersville Library.  The event will include a discussion of the history of the American flag by members of the Woodmen of the World. There will also be a display covering changes to the flag throughout time.

Celebrated annually on June 14, Flag Day commemorates the adoption of the United States flag in 1777.  The holiday was begun in 1916 by President Woodrow Wilson.

Woodmen of the World is a fraternal benefit society whose programs include donating American flags and flagpoles to school, fire departments, parks and other public spaces.  The local chapter is arranging for the installation of an exterior flagpole at the Fishersville Library.
