Auditions for Central Virginia Theater Alliance

Contributors

On Sat., Oct. 13, the Central Virginia Theater Alliance will host the first ever, area-wide general auditions.

The CVTA is an organization comprised of 14 member theaters and theater companies whose mission is to promote collaboration among the area theaters and by doing so to increase audience awareness of the different theatrical options in this region, thereby potentially increasing audience for all.

The goal of these auditions is to create a Players’ Guide for the area that is available to all member theaters.  These are not auditions for specific shows; these are general auditions.  However, there will be directors present who will be watching for actors for their upcoming productions.  Each theater will have a representative present who will have information about specific auditions and events.  Actors age 16 and up are asked to bring a headshot and a resume to the auditions; there is a form available on the website for anyone who might not have a resume and there will be a photographer and digital camera on site as well.

Ashlawn Opera, Four County Players, PVCC, PlayOn!, Live Arts, the Hamner Theater, Big Blue Door, Offstage and Heritage Theater will all have representatives at these auditions.  Actors will sign up for a 5 minute slot on the website – the auditions will be held between 10am and 1pm at PVCC in the black box theater.  Actors are asked to prepare one or two contrasting monologues (comic/dramatic or classic/contemporary, 1 minute apiece) or a monologue and 32 bars of a song.  Please bring sheet music; there will be an accompanist at the auditions.

Why come to these auditions?  To be seen and be part of an invaluable resource for directors and producers of theater in the area.  Questions?  Call 434-361-1999 or email [email protected].
