Area nonprofits unite to sustain their communities

newspaperA group of local nonprofits is teaming up together to build long-term, sustainable funds that will support local communities both now and in the future. Using technology developed by local nonprofit giv2giv.org, when donors visit one of the participating charities’ websites, they can make a donation that is split – A portion goes straight to the charity, and a portion is invested to support the charity in the future.

Participating charities include Renewing Homes of Greater Augusta, Crozet Arts, the Institute for Reform and Solutions, and People Places.

Philip Holbrook of Renewing Homes of Greater Augusta described how his organization helps: “Renewing Homes of Greater Augusta provides critical home repairs for low-income homeowners by utilizing donated funds from grants, individuals, churches, and civic organizations. In an effort to diversify fundraising streams, we found that giv2giv.org allowed our donors the option to help us plan for the future so that we’re not just fixing homes today – but also next week, next year, and for many years to come.”

Crozet Arts Artistic Director Sharon Tolczyk added “As a young, small non-profit, Crozet Arts is thrilled by the partnership with giv2giv that will facilitate the initiation of our online giving, addressing both immediate funding needs as well as long-term sustainability.  With limited funds and staff to manage fundraising, giv2giv will support a critical technical need for Crozet Arts, as well as connect us with new donors who wish to support our mission to promote life-long engagement in the arts through high quality, affordable arts instruction for all ages and abilities.”

giv2giv.org founder Michael Blinn explained why he founded giv2giv.org. “There is always a gap between community needs and available resources. We built giv2giv.org to help small charities plan for the future. Sustainable funds are invested at low cost through giv2giv.org, and then we make grants every 3 months, providing predictable, ongoing support for keystone charities in our community. giv2giv.org also provide a clear win for donors, who can build up a charitable investment fund in any dollar amount.”

Dr. Nancy Insco, CEO of The Institute for Reform and Solutions, stated, “The Institute is thrilled to join with giv2giv.org to advance marked criminal justice reform, while expanding reentry programs for persons transitioning from custody to the community. Our efforts are ongoing; we love the ability to build a sustainable fund which is responsibly invested and supports our ongoing mission.”

This year #GivingTuesday, a global day dedicated to giving back, is December 1st. Blinn adds “Please support these local charities in any amount, because even small donations can grow to have a big impact when invested over time. giv2giv.org accepts donation amounts from $5 to $10,000. You don’t have to be Bill Gates – you can still create a legacy with a few clicks!”
