Americans continue to abandon the US, but are they prepared?

Leaving the US may not be on most people’s minds, yet it is something more people are considering and acting on. There are many reasons why Americans are leaving this country behind in record numbers. Some people are leaving because other countries simply offer more perks than the US while others are leaving because they simply do not feel safe in the country.

America is full of citizens who proclaim that it is the greatest country in the world, so this change may shock some, yet it is happening. Moving to another country comes at a cost, so taking the right steps to prepare is crucial.

Why are Other Countries so Tempting?

One of the biggest groups of people leaving the United States are retirees.

The reason comes down to economics and health, for the most part. It seems that many Americans aren’t getting enough money from their retirement to afford medical expenses, which is one reason they go to countries that are friendlier to retirees. Some of the countries that people are moving to include Canada, Mexico, and Australia just to name a few.

Another reason some Americans are moving to other countries has to do with politics. More and more, the US is becoming divided, and this is scaring off people who want to live in a place where they can feel safe. No country is safe from divisive language or racism, but tolerance levels may be better in countries like the UK, Canada, or Australia.

Of course, there are other reasons why Americans are leaving the United States.

Preparing to Leave the US

The record number of Americans renouncing their citizenship is alarming, but those who are thinking of doing the same should pause and make sure they are prepared. Moving to another country is quite the move, and you need to be ready for some of the changes coming your way.

For one, language is a big thing that could make assimilation pretty hard for Americans. It is no secret that most US citizens do not know more than one language, meaning that going to a country that does not speak English might present a challenge. Perhaps this is one reason most Americans choose to move to places like Canada, Australia, or the UK since these are countries where many people speak English.

The next thing that Americans who are thinking of renouncing their citizenship need to consider is quality of life. America, as a fully developed country, has been able to provide its citizens a pretty civilized existence. Moving to a region where things like running water are scarce might be a bit of a shock. This is the reason that most Americans choose countries that are fully developed so that they can still live a life akin to their life in the States.

There are many things that an American can do to make sure their lives will be relatively the same. For example, those choosing Australia should definitely check NBN availability in the region they are considering.

This country’s internet is provided through a national effort, so making sure that the region you are considering is ready to provide you with internet is vital. The good thing is that Australia is working hard to provide internet to some of the nation’s most remote areas unlike the US, which gives Americans more choices if they want to continue to use the internet.

Americans should also pay attention to the country’s ability to provide some of the things you need. This is quite subjective, so those out there who are thinking of moving should work on a list that includes everything needed to live comfortably.

For example, people who need affordable medical assistance should look towards countries that provide some kind of universal health care. It would be wise to remember that this list can be as personalized as needed; for example, Americans who love shopping locally should make sure that the country or region considered has enough farms.

Taking some of these steps may seem superfluous, but the truth is that it could ensure that leaving America feels like the perfect choice, which is ultimately the reason why many citizens are leaving the US.
