The Staunton Music Guild has recently partnered with several local businesses and organizations to benefit community and cultural causes, and on Saturday, Dec. 26, from 7-10 p.m., will join with Mockingbird Roots Music Hall, 123 W. Beverley St., to hold “Staunton Music Guild Night.”

The event will feature a sampling of local acoustic bands and provide attendees with information about the new organization’s mission. Founding memberships will be available for $10. The lineup of music includes energetic Americana, folk rock, country, bluegrass and western swing from The Gabby Haze Band, The Judy Chops, Lola Mullen & Friends, The Last Minute Band and The Hound Dog Hill Boys. Free tickets, gift certificates and more prizes will be given away during the evening.

Admission is $7 and proceeds will go to the Staunton Music Guild. Advance tickets are available at Mockingbird or online (www.mockingbird123.com). Mockingbird encourages guests to arrive early to enjoy a meal in the Roots Music Hall. When the lights go down, the focus is on the music and performance, but food and drink service is always available during the show. Those interested in dining before the show should call the restaurant (540.213.8777) to reserve a serving time. Doors open at 5 p.m. for this event.

The newly formed Staunton Music Guild’s mission is to foster the growth and performance of music in Staunton by providing educational, promotional and community-based support for local musicians and music-related business owners. On Dec. 15 SMG teamed up with Shenandoah Pizza and the City of Staunton Parks and Recreation Department to raise over $500 for the Boys and Girls Club of Staunton, Waynesboro and Augusta County. Since September guild musicians have sponsored a workshop and contributed their time to events held by the Staunton Downtown Development Association and the city’s Red Brick Arts and Culture District Council.

Plans for a public website and a series of workshop, networking and community outreach programs are in the works for 2010.
