Boris Bojanovsky dunked home a loose ball with four-tenths of a second left to lift #9 seed Florida State to a dramatic 67-65 win over #8 seed Maryland on Thursday in the second round of the 2014 ACC Tournament.
Maryland (17-15, 9-10 ACC) had trailed by as many as 11 in the second half, but used a full-court press to get the Seminoles off their game, and the Terps tied the score at 65 with 15.1 seconds left on a pair of free throws by Dez Wells.
FSU (20-12, 10-9 ACC) dribbled the clock down in the final seconds. Okaro White ended up with a loose ball in the lane and tipped it over to Bojanovsky to the left of the lane. The 7’3” center took care of the rest, the thunderous dunk punctuating an important win for Florida State, which will look to enhance its resume for an NCAA bid on Friday against top seed Virginia.
Maryland led 34-32 at the half and extended that lead to five in the opening minute of the second half before the ‘Noles went on an extended 24-8 run to lead 56-45 on a three-pointer by Ian Miller with 9:39 to go.
The Terrapins, playing their final ACC game on their way to a move to the Big Ten next year, tightened up its defense to get back in the game in the final minutes, limiting Florida State to two field goals in the final 9:39 before the Bojanovsky slam.
Miller scored 17 to lead FSU, which shot 54.2 percent in the second half and 48.2 percent for the game.
