#8 UVA clinical, business-like in 67-39 win over Norfolk State
Norfolk State gave eventual ACC champ UVA everything it could handle in a 66-56 win in Charlottesville last December. There was no drama Sunday night.
Virginia raced out to a 20-point halftime lead and coasted from there to a 67-39 win over the Spartans in the season opener for the ‘Hoos at the John Paul Jones Arena in Charlottesville.
A 10-0 UVA run midway through the first half broke open a tight early game and gave the Cavs a 16-point lead, and Norfolk State (1-1) would never get closer than 13 the rest of the way.
It was 42-22 Virginia at the half, and the margin got to be as big as 33 before garbage time.
Justin Anderson led a balanced scoring attack for Virginia (2-0) with 11 points. Mike Tobey had 10 points and seven rebounds, and Anthony Gill had nine points and eight rebounds for the Cavs.
Jeff Short had 19 points for Norfolk State.
