uva-logo-new2The third-ranked UVA women’s soccer team continues its three-game homestand Friday as it hosts Richmond. Game time at Klöckner Stadium at 5:30 p.m., as the contest is the first game of a Cavalier soccer doubleheader. The No. 3 Virginia men’s soccer team hosts No. 25 Old Dominion in its season opener at 8 p.m.

Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for youth, seniors and faculty/staff; one ticket is good for admission into both matches of the doubleheader. Group ticket orders of 20 or more tickets are $4.

Free parking is available in the University Hall lots. Because of packet pickup for the Charlottesville 4-Miler on Friday night at John Paul Jones Arena from 5-8 p.m., more traffic than normal is expected in the area. Fans are encouraged to allow extra time to arrive because of the additional traffic.

At halftime of the game, Cavalier great Lori Lindsey (1998-2001) will be honored. The two-time ACC Player of the Year recently retired after a 13-year professional career that included 31 appearances for the United States Women’s National Team. Following the ceremony, she will have an autograph signing for fans.
The Cavaliers (1-0) opened the season with a 3-0 victory over Marshall last week. Makenzy Doniak (Chino Hills, Calif.), Kaili Torres (Fleming Island, Fla.) and Alexis Shaffer (Cary, N.C.) scored for Virginia, while Morgan Brian (St. Simons Island, Ga.) recorded a pair of assists.

The Spiders (1-1) are in the midst of a seven-game road trip to open the season. Last week, Richmond lost its opener at Campbell, 3-2, before winning at Longwood, 2-1. The Spiders were picked eighth in the preseason Atlantic 10 poll.

Virginia leads the all-time series 8-1-1, including a 5-1-1 record at Klöckner Stadium. The Cavaliers have won the last five matchups, including a 3-0 victory last season.

The Cavaliers are currently on a school-record 19-game home win streak, the longest active streak in the nation. Against unranked opponents, Virginia has won 32 straight games and is unbeaten in its last 46 games (45-0-1).

Virginia concludes its season-opening homestand on Sunday as it hosts Villanova at 2 p.m.
