uva basketballDavidson led by as many as 12 points in the first half. Then third-ranked UVA went big.

Anthony Gill scored a season-high 25 points, 19 in the second half on 8-of-9 shooting from the field, and the Cavs improved to 12-0 with an 83-72 win over the Wildcats before a sellout crowd at the John Paul Jones Arena in Charlottesville, Va., on Tuesday.

Davidson (9-2) led for all but a few seconds of the first half, leading by as many as 12 before Virginia closed the half on an 8-2 run to close to within 36-32 at the break.

The Cavs took their first lead since a game-opening Justin Anderson three-pointer on a pair of free throws by Gill at the 17:01 mark of the second half. Virginia shot 56.7 percent from the field in the second half (17-of-30) after making only 10 of its 31 first-half field-goal attempts (32.3 percent).

The ‘Hoos also won the rebounding battle 42-25, dominating the boards in the second half by a 20-6 margin.

Gill shot 11-for-16 from the field overall to post his 25-point night, and also grabbed 13 rebounds. Brogdon had 16 points, shooting just 2-for-10 from the field but going a perfect 12-for-12 at the foul line.

Anderson had 14 points on 5-of-8 shooting from the field and 4-of-6 shooting from three-point range.

Darion Atkins had 13 points and 10 rebounds off the bench.

Jack Gibbs led Davidson with 21 points on 7-of-10 shooting from the field. Tyler Kalinoski had 20 for the Wildcats, who shot 48.2 percent for the game (27-of-56) and 39.3 percent from three-point range (11-of-28).
