#3 UVA basketball opens home ACC slate Wednesday vs. N.C. State

uva basketballNo. 3 UVA (13-0, 1-0 ACC) hosts NC State (11-4, 2-0 ACC) in its ACC home opener on Wednesday, Jan. 7. Tipoff at John Paul Jones Arena is set for 7 p.m.



Approximately 850 upper level tickets remain for the Virginia-NC State game. Ticket prices for the Virginia-NC State games are $20, $30 and $40 depending upon the seat location. Tickets game may be purchased online at VirginiaSports.com or through the Virginia Athletics Ticket Office by telephone and in person. The ticket office is located in Bryant Hall at Scott Stadium and open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. Telephone purchases can be made by calling 1-800-542-8821. Tickets may also be purchased on game day at the JPJ box office starting at 5:30 p.m.

  • Virginia (13-0) is off to its best start since the 1980-81 season when that team led by legendary center Ralph Sampson started 23-0.
  • The Cavaliers have scored 80 or more points in back-to-back games for the first time under Tony Bennett.
  • UVa owns the nation’s eighth-longest current home winning streak at 18 games and can tie a John Paul Jones Arena record of 19 straight wins (2012-13) with a win over NC State.

  • Justin Anderson added 16 points, including the game-tying 3-pointer at the end of the first overtime, as UVa improved to 7-0 in its last seven ACC openers.
  • Mike Tobey added 14 points and Marial Shayok added nine points.
  • Darion Atkins continued his strong play off the bench with a career-high 12 rebounds, but UVa was outrebounded (43-39) for the first time this season.
  • The Cavaliers led 38-20 at the half, but Miami stormed back behind Angel Rodriguez who finished with a team-high 25 points and seven assists.


Last Time vs. NC State

  • The Cavaliers defeated NC State 76-45, marking their largest margin of victory (31 points) against the Wolfpack in Raleigh in series history.
  • Mike Tobey and Joe Harris led UVa with 16 points each, while Malcolm Brogdon added 13 points and Akil Mitchell had a game-high 12 rebounds.
  • London Perrantes added a game-high five assists and no turnovers.
  • Virginia limited the nation’s fifth-leading scorer T.J. Warren (23.4 ppg) to just four points.
  • The Cavaliers shot 83.3 percent (15-of-18) from the charity stripe.
  • UVa held NC State to 28.9 percent (13-of-45) from the floor and outrebounded the Wolfpack, 40-28.
