#7 Louisville vs. #15 Notre Dame

First half

  • Jordan Nwora got 12. Louisville got 12. Cardinals lead 12-10 at the first media timeout. Nwora just hit a heat-check three from about 30 feet. He hot.
  • Another has scored for Louisville, which now leads 21-12 at the 11:19 media timeout. Cardinals are 8-of-16 from the floor and 4-of-7 from three. Notre Dame has 10 three-point attempts among its 12 shots from the floor, and only made two of them.
  • Louisville leads 34-20 at the 3:41 media timeout. UL shooting has cooled off – now 12-of-30 from the floor – but Notre Dame is frigid – 5-of-24 overall and 2-of-16 from three.
  • Louisville led by as many as 16, and goes into the break up 34-25. Jordan Nwora has 16 points for UL. Notre Dame shot 7-of-33 from the floor, which is not good, when you do the math.

Second half

  • Louisville leads 44-31 at the 15:30 media timeout. Notre Dame is 2-of-6 from the floor in the second half, and that’s actually an improvement,
  • Ryan McMahon has 12 of Louisville’s last 14 points – on a trio of threes and three free throws after being fouled on a three. The other basket was an assist from McMahon on an alley-oop. Louisville leads 60-38, 11:34 left. Please end this.
  • Louisville leads 65-45 at the 7:14 media timeout. I’m finally getting tired.
  • Final: Louisville 75, Notre Dame 53

#5 Virginia Tech 71, #12 Miami 56

First half

  • No Justin Robinson again for Tech. The Hokies only had nine guys in the layup line.
  • Virginia Tech opens with an 11-0 lead, shooting 3-of-4 from three. Miami is 0-of-5 from the floor with a turnover.
  • Tech is rolling: up 23-8 at the 10:26 media timeout, shooting 8-of-12 from the floor and 4-of-5 from three.
  • Chris Lykes banks a three at the buzzer, but Miami is down big: 38-21. Virginia Tech shoots 14-of-26 from the floor and 7-of-13 from three. Ty Outlaw is torrid: 14 points, 5-of-6 from the floor, 4-of-5 from three.

Second half

  • Miami is on a 17-4 run, cutting a once 20-point lead to 42-35. Virginia Tech is 2-for-8 from the field in the second half.
  • Disaster has been averted for Virginia Tech. Miami had the ball, down seven, and three shots on a possession, all missing. The Hokies respond with a 7-0 run, and now lead, 49-35, with 12:25 left.
  • Tech in firm control: up 62-40 at the 7:59 media timeout. The Hokies are on a 20-5 run over the last 6:55.
  • Final from the second game of the afternoon: Virginia Tech 71, Miami 56.

#8 NC State 59, #9 Clemson 58

First half

  • Clemson showed up. Not so sure about NC State. The Tigers lead 27-15 at the 9:14 mark, shooting 64.7 percent (11-of-17) from the floor. State is shooting 38.9 percent (7-of-18) and has missed all five of its threes.
  • Timeout NC State: Back-to-back threes for Clemson, which is 7-of-8 from three, and the Tigers lead, 36-18.
  • Amir Sims picks up two cheap fouls over a seven-second stretch, and heads to the bench. Clemson up 36-24, 5:22/1st.
  • 8-0 State run, Pack down 36-26, 3:36 media timeout, Clemson has missed its last five shots and has three turnovers in the last 4:01.
  • State really wasted that Clemson scoring drought, The Tigers went 5:46 without a point, but the Pack only made that an 8-0 run. Clemson finally shook out of it, and is up 42-26 at the half.

Second half

  • State opens the second half on an 11-4 run, but a stickback by Amir Sims has Clemson back up 48-37 at the 15:50 media timeout.
  • Game of runs: State on a 7-0 run to cut the deficit to 51-44. Clemson timeout, 12:31 to go. The Tigers have gone 2:30 without a point.
  • Elijah Thomas called for an offensive foul, his fourth. A Jericole Hellems three has the Pack down 51-47 at the 11:26 media timeout.
  • Clemson has missed 12 of its last 14 shots. State has fought back into it: down 53-51, 6:31 left.
  • Clemson has missed 11 of its last 12 from three after starting 7-of-8.
  • Marcquise Reed hits a three, and State is called for an off-ball foul, after back-to-back threes by Markell Johnson. State leads 57-56, Clemson ball, 3:56 left.
  • Clemson leads 58-57, minute to go, review of possession, but it looks like Clemson ball.
  • Reversal: State ball.
  • Just the third Clemson team foul of the second half? Wow.
  • Elijah Thomas fouls out with 18.7 seconds left. Clemson up 58-57.
  • Markell Johnson totally scammed that foul call. Makes the first free throw to tie the game with 2.6 seconds left. Timeout Clemson.
  • Markell Johnson makes the second, State leads, 59-58, timeout Pack. I guess the ball does sometimes lie.
  • NC State holds Clemson to 16 points in the second half, and rallies from a 16-point deficit, to win 59-58, advancing to face #1 seed Virginia tomorrow at noon.
