ACC announces 2016 ACC Women’s Basketball Tournament schedule of events, initiatives

Women’s Basketball TournamentThe ACC released on Tuesday information on a number of initiatives surrounding the 2016 ACC Women’s Basketball Tournament.

 

Coverage & Social Information

The 2016 ACC Women’s Basketball Tournament will be played March 2-6 in the Greensboro Coliseum. The 15-team tournament will conclude with the championship game at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, which will be nationally televised by ESPN. The first and second rounds and the quarterfinals of the tournament will be broadcast on RSN, while the semifinals will be on ESPNU. Following each game, postgame press conferences with the head coach and selected players will be streamed live on theACC.com. Fans can view these at LINK. The postgame press conference following the championship game will also be available on WatchESPN.

Fan App

The Official ACC Championship App can be found as a free download in the Apple iTunes and Google Play stores. The app consists of a variety of extensive content designed to enhance the game-day experience by delivering schedules, maps, live game radio broadcast audio, live game scores and stats, real-time social streams and more.

 

Championship Game Halftime

The championship game of the 2016 ACC Women’s Basketball Tournament on Sunday, March 6 will feature a halftime performance by Rhythm N’ Youth, the only youth group in the Bahamas that performs “Rake N’ Scrape,” a form of music birthed in the Bahamas by slaves. The group works to mesh the traditional Bahamian music style with rhythms from around the world, while acting as a mentorship program for the participating children. Formed in 2012, Rhythm N’ Youth consists of 13 schools in the Bahamas.

 

Entertainment

ACC fans will have the chance to win prizes from the ACC Corporate Champions throughout the ACC Women’s Basketball Tournament. In addition to entertaining national anthem and halftime performances, DJ JDew will serve as the in-arena emcee.

 

Mascot Night presented by Food Lion

The mascots from each of the 15 ACC institutions will be on hand at the Greensboro Coliseum to greet and interact with patrons, pose for photos and bring family fun to those in attendance for Session 8 (6 & 8 p.m. games) as part of the sixth annual “Mascot Night presented by Food Lion” on Friday, March 4. Fans can also see their favorite mascots throughout the week at a local Food Lion and on the morning news.

 

Legends Brunch

The ACC Women’s Basketball Legends Brunch will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 5 at the Greensboro Coliseum Special Events Center in Greensboro, North Carolina. The Legends will then be introduced to the Coliseum crowd at halftime of the first semifinal game that afternoon. Teachers of the Year

The ACC continued an initiative to recognize local Teachers of the Year by inviting them to ACC Championship events. The Guilford County Schools 2016 Teacher of the Year finalists and their guests were invited to attend the championship game of the ACC Women’s Basketball Tournament.

 

School Partnership

The ACC enters its 13th year of the “ACC Community School Day Program,” which will culminate by allowing more than 12,000 enthusiastic students – representing 12 county schools districts – to attend the 2016 ACC Women’s Basketball Tournament at the Greensboro Coliseum. PTA members from participating schools have also been invited and will have the opportunity to play “Simon Sez” during halftime of the 6 p.m. game. The winner will receive a $1,000 Food Lion gift card for his or her school.

In addition to school attendance at the Tournament, the No. 15 seed will visit an elementary school on Tuesday, March 1 as part of the Greensboro News & Record’s Newspapers in Education (NIE) program presented by the Official Corporate Champions of the ACC. The school visited will be the winner of the NIE “ACC Team Spirit” video contest. Top grade winners will also receive free tickets to ACC Mascot Night and other ACC prizes.

 

Wounded Warrior Project & National Anthem

The ACC will again honor America by welcoming and recognizing the men and women of the Armed Forces during the 2016 ACC Women’s Basketball Tournament semifinal and championship games. The ACC will welcome 50 soldiers from Fort Bragg and their families to the semifinal games on Saturday, March 5.  In addition, the ACC is once again collaborating with Wounded Warrior Project® (WWP) to invite WWP injured service members and their guests to the championship game on Sunday, March 6.

 

Mascot Outreach

The ACC mascots will participate in Food Lion/Second Harvest Food Bank of Northwest N.C. food drive on Friday, March 4 as part of an outreach initiative to eliminate hunger in the High Point community for the 2016 ACC Women’s Basketball Tournament. Winston-Salem, N.C., news station WXII-TV Channel 12 will also be onsite performing live reports from the store throughout Friday morning.

 

FanFest

ACC FanFest, presented by the Official Corporate Champions of the ACC, will take place beginning Wednesday, March 2 and run through Sunday, March 6, with interactive games and attractions, giveaways and special entertainment for ACC fans. ACC FanFest will be held in a new location inside the Special Events Center Hall C adjacent to the Greensboro Coliseum. The free event will feature ACC Corporate Champion attractions, appearances by the ACC mascots, an interactive sport court, free face painting, food/drinks, an official Tournament merchandise store, interactive games and novelty stations, daily contests and giveaways, ACC Legends autograph signing, and fun for the entire family.

 

Daddy Daughter Date Night

The ACC will host Daddy Daughter Date Night on Friday, March 4. Packages are $30 and include two tickets to Mascot Night of the ACC Women’s Basketball Tournament, two $5 Bojangles’ gift cards, a mini ACC autograph basketball, an ACC lanyard and a photo opportunity with the ACC mascots. Career Fair

The ACC Career Fair will take place on Saturday, March 5 of the ACC Women’s Basketball Tournament. Confirmed participants include the Atlantic Coast Conference, Carolina Hurricanes and Winston-Salem Dash. Registration is $15 and includes entrance to the seminar and career fair, one ticket to the ACC Women’s Basketball Tournament semifinal games, access to the networking social and favor bag. Hoops For Kids

ACC Hoops for Kids, presented by the Official Corporate Champions of the ACC, will take place on Thursday, March 3. The basketball skills and drills clinic is free for kids 8 to 12 years of age who register for the event and will take place in the Special Events Center Hall A and B adjacent to the Greensboro Coliseum. Each participating child will receive a t-shirt, dinner from Food Lion and a ticket to the Thursday night games of the ACC Women’s Basketball Tournament. 2016 ACC Women’s Basketball Tournament
