virginia tech sportsVirginia Tech scored on its first possession, forced five Florida State turnovers, scored on a blocked punt. That was an ass-whuppin’.

The Hokies won in Tallahassee, 24-3, on Monday night, controlling the game with the favored Seminoles from the outset.

Tech (1-0) got on the board early, on a 10-yard pass from Josh Jackson to Damon Hazelton, capping a 10-play, 75-yard drive to put the Hokies up 7-0 at the 10:34 mark of the first quarter.

A Brian Johnson 29-yard field goal made it 10-0 later in the first.

Ricky Aguayo, who missed an earlier try, connected on a 22-yard field goal at the 7:26 mark of the second quarter to get Florida State to 10-3.

That was as close as the ‘Noles, seven-point favorites at game time, would get from there on.

Eric Kumah returned a blocked punt for a touchdown to make it 17-3 at the half.

After FSU got a stop on a fourth-and-goal from the 1 late in the third, and threatened with a Cam Akers 85-yard run that got the Seminoles inside the Tech 5, before an FSU fumble, Jackson connected with Kumah on a 49-yard catch-and-carry TD that put the game away.

Jackson finished with 209 yards passing, completing 16 of his 26 attempts.

Deondre Francois, starting his first game for Florida State since the 2017 opener, was 22-of-35 passing for 233 yards and three interceptions for first-year coach Willie Taggart.
