CTB funds $16 million Waynesboro industrial park road

waynesboroThe Commonwealth Transportation Board has approved a $16 million road construction project to build the Southern Corridor in Waynesboro.

The Southern Corridor will be a 1.6-mile extension of Shenandoah Village Drive south of Interstate 64 between Exits 94 and 96.  The new road will create a direct, multi-modal linkage between Rosser Avenue and South Delphine Avenue.

The project will provide additional access to the existing industrial park on Shenandoah Village Drive from Interstate 64 at Exit 96 and will serve as the primary access road for a future Exit 96 industrial park.

“This is great news for the city and our region,” Mayor Bruce Allen said. “The road, when finished, will provide lots of different types of benefits. We’ve worked on this for some time, and we very much appreciate the commitment the Commonwealth has made to the project.”

Road design and permitting should be completed by the summer of 2018, according to a city press release, with construction on the road to begin in 2020.
