World War I expert to speak at Bridgewater College

bridgewaterThis year – 2014 – marks the 100th anniversary of the beginning of World War I. Dr. Michael S. Neiberg, author of Dance of the Furies: Europe and the Outbreak of World War I, will speak Tuesday, Oct. 21, at 7:30 p.m. in Cole Hall at Bridgewater College. The event is free and open to the public.

Neiberg is professor of history in the Department of National Security and Strategy at the United States Army War College in Carlisle, Pa. He previously taught at the United States Air Force Academy and the University of Southern Mississippi.

His academic background includes social history, military history, French history and American history. Neiberg has published widely on the theme of war in the world, especially in the era of the two world wars.

He has been a Guggenheim fellow, a founding member of the Société Internationale d’Étude de la Grande Guerre and a trustee of the Society for Military History. 

In addition to Dance of the Furies, Neiberg is the author of The Blood of Free Men: The Liberation of Paris, 1944, The World War I Reader and The Military Atlas of World War I.

He earned M.A. and Ph.D. degrees from Carnegie Mellon University.

Bridgewater College is a private, four-year liberal arts college, located in the Central Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. Founded in 1880, it was the state’s first private, coeducational college. Today, Bridgewater College is home to approximately 1,800 undergraduate students.
