bridgewater eaglesKeri Rager scored her second goal of the game midway through the first overtime Sunday to lift Bridgewater College to a 2-1 ODAC victory over Randolph-Macon College.

The Yellow Jackets got on the scoreboard first with a goal in the 35th minute of play. Hannah Harris crossed a ball into the box from the right side and Abbie Winkelmann converted the shot for a 1-0 Randolph-Macon lead.

The hosts took the 1-0 lead to the halftime break, but the Eagles scored the equalizer less than three minutes into the second half.

Bailey Kratz sent a cross into the box from the right side and Rager slotted the shot past the keeper to tie the score at one goal apiece.

The Eagles held a 7-1 edge in shots over the final 40 minutes of regulation but were unable to score the go-ahead goal.

The Yellow Jackets earned a corner kick early in the overtime period but were unable to convert on the set piece.

Bridgewater quickly countered and moved into the offensive end where Kelly Patterson‘s shot was saved by Yellow Jackets’ keeper Christina Newman.

The Eagles kept the pressure on and Rager put her foot into a shot from just outside the box and the ball went over the keeper’s head and into the back of the net for the winning goal.

The Eagles had a 20-6 edge in total shots and held a slim 4-3 margin in corner kicks.

Hayley Talbott went the distance in goal and finished with one save to pick up the victory.

Bridgewater, now 11-2-1 overall and 4-1-1 in the ODAC, returns to action Wednesday when the Eagles host Virginia Wesleyan in a key conference matchup. Game time is set for 4:00 p.m.
