wlogo2A two-run, fourth-inning homer by Derek Peterson was all New Market needed in a 2-0 win over Waynesboro Friday night.

Peterson’s home run, his second of the season, came off losing pitcher Terrance Dedrick (junior, Auburn), who was getting his first start of the season.

Dedrick, who as the closer at Auburn in the SEC recorded 10 saves in the spring, went four innings, giving up two runs on two hits, striking out four and walking none.

Cory Rhodes got the win for New Market, giving up three hits in seven innings, striking out seven and walking one to improve to 3-1 on the season.

The loss drops Waynesboro to 9-12 on the season, and puts the Generals a season-high five and a half games out of first place in the South Division.

Waynesboro travels to first-place Harrisonburg Saturday night.
