Joe HarrisCurrent and former members of the Waynesboro Police Department Special Weapons and Tactics Team (SWAT) gathered for a luncheon this week to honor City Sheriff Joe Harris Jr.

Sheriff Harris stepped down from his position as a team leader on the unit earlier this year after serving as a SWAT Officer for 29 years. He was one of the first officers chosen for this special unit in 1987 and continued to serve on the team even after moving from the Police Department to his current duties as the city’s elected sheriff.

Harris was presented with a handmade plaque signed by both current and former members of the team, as well as an engraved Glock pistol.
