waynesboro libraryThe Waynesboro Public Library has released its busy schedule of events for July 2015.

 

Through July 31 – Read to the Rhythm Children’s Summer Reading Program. Use your summer reading wristband for free or discount admission at local businesses. Ages 12 & under: Every book checked out and read gets a library buck upon return. Use your bucks to purchase new books from our SRP store and collect a special prize each week. Ages 13 & up: For every 2 hours of reading, receive $5 in SRP bucks to spend on books and get a special prize each week. Submit completed punch cards for a grand prize drawing.

Through July 27 – Escape the Ordinary Adult Summer Reading Program. Enter to win end of summer prize drawings, including a Kindle grand prize. Register at the circulation desk.

Through July 18 – Strong Men and Women in Virginia History Exhibit.  This is panel exhibit is designed to honor distinguished African-American leaders in Virginia.

Friday, July 10 – Fun Friday at Grand Caverns. Use your SRP wristband for 2 free children with a paying adult.

Friday, July 10, 6:30 pm – Friday Night at the Movies. Enjoy new features on the big screen. Free popcorn and soda provided.

Tuesday, July 14– Centennial Celebration. The 1:00 pm ceremony featuring guest speakers, musical entertainment, character impersonations, and more. Special activities occurring throughout the day include a pictorial postmark station, photo booth, The Rockin’ Daddies blues group, Farm Fresh Fixins food truck, and children’s WPL birthday party.

Tuesday, July 14, 7:00 pm – Impressions Theater. Performing Robin Hood and His Merry Band, Impressions Theater entertains & educates. Great family fun!

Wednesday, July 15, 7:00 pm – Wednesday Night Book Club. Fascinating and far ranging discussion with other book lovers. The book is provided, participants vote on selections, and a staff member leads the discussion. This month’s selection is Girl Gone by Gillian Flynn.

Thursday, July 16, 6:00 pm – Harry Potter Party. Potter-heads unite! We’ll get sorted into houses, create potter-themed crafts. Costume contest, book discussion, and movie showing complete the night. Wear your summer reading program wristband for a special take-home prize. Mandrake cupcakes & Butter Beer provided. Please sign up.

Friday, July 17 – Fun Friday at Wayne Lanes. Use your SRP wristband for 2 free games.

Wednesday, July 22, 3:00 pm – Votes for Women. Laura van Assendelft on the history of the Women’s Suffrage Movement of the early 1900s.

Friday, July 24, 12:00-4:00 pm – Fun Friday at War Memorial Pool, Ridgeview Park. Use your SRP wristband for free admission.

Saturday, July 25, 11:00 am-3:00 pm – Antique Car Show. View antique cars and enjoy refreshments in the side parking lot of the library

Tuesday, July 28, 9:30 amMorning Matinee. Start your day off with a classic movie. Contact the library for the featured film. Light refreshments provided.

Friday, July 31, 6:00 pm – Fun Fest. Wear your wristband to our end of summer street fair. Games, snacks, and surprises.

 

 

Weekly

Monday

10:30 am – Swing and Sway. This music and movement class is just the thing you need to get started in the morning. No stories, just song and dance. Ages 0-6.

11:00 am-1:00 pm – Chat-N-Play provides interactive play for your little one and conversation for you. Open to children ages 0-3 and their caregivers.

11:30 am – Kids Café. The Blue Ridge Area Food Bank and WPL want to keep kids health this summer by providing nutritious snacks.

1:00 pm – Blanket Blockbuster. Bring your blanket and sit picnic style. Enjoy a family friendly movie with free popcorn and a drink.

2:00 pm – Kids Café. The Blue Ridge Area Food Bank and WPL want to keep kids health this summer by providing nutritious snacks.

4:00 pm – WPL Knitters. Bring your materials and socialize with other knitters.

 

Tuesday

11:30 am – Kids Café. The Blue Ridge Area Food Bank and WPL want to keep kids health this summer by providing nutritious snacks.

2:00 pm – Kids Café. The Blue Ridge Area Food Bank and WPL want to keep kids health this summer by providing nutritious snacks.

6:30 pm – Pajama Night. Come in your jammies for a story and snack suitable for children in preschool or early elementary.

 

Wednesday

9:30 am –  Mother Goose Time is an interactive program featuring songs, finger-plays, books, movements, and nursery rhymes for children from birth through age two and their caregivers.

10:30 am – Story Time features books, stories, songs, puppets, flannel board activities, and crafts for children ages two through five accompanied by an adult.

11:30 am – Kids Café. The Blue Ridge Area Food Bank and WPL want to keep kids health this summer by providing nutritious snacks.

2:00 pm – Kids Café. The Blue Ridge Area Food Bank and WPL want to keep kids health this summer by providing nutritious snacks.

3:30 pm – Game On! Video game lounge for young adults featuring Xbox games. Snacks and drinks provided.

 

Thursday

10:00 amComputer classes are offered Thursday of every week. Classes rotate between Computer Basics, Email 101, Introduction to Microsoft Word, and OverDrive & Zinio Basics.  Call (540) 942-6746 to register.

10:30 amStory Time features books, stories, songs, puppets, flannel board activities, and crafts for children ages two through five accompanied by an adult.

11:30 am – Kids Café. The Blue Ridge Area Food Bank and WPL want to keep kids health this summer by providing nutritious snacks.

1:00 pm Story Time features books, stories, songs, puppets, flannel board activities, and crafts for children ages two through five accompanied by an adult.

1:00 pm – Happy Tales. Furry canine friends are ready to listen to you read. Please make an appointment.

2:00 pm – Kids Café. The Blue Ridge Area Food Bank and WPL want to keep kids health this summer by providing nutritious snacks.
