Waynesboro Police searching for pickpockets

The Waynesboro Police Department is requesting assistance from the community to help identify two suspects involved in a pickpocket theft of a wallet last week at a local restaurant.

The individuals are also suspected of using the victim’s credit cards after stealing them.

On Thursday, September 15, at approximately 3:30 p.m., a 75 year old Stuarts Draft woman reported that her wallet had been taken from her purse while she dined at Golden Corral, 51 Apple Tree Lane.  The victim was eating at her table when she noticed a couple sit at the table next to her.  The couple stayed briefly at the table then appeared to leave in a hurry without eating.  The victim’s purse was hanging on the back of her chair.

About 45 minutes later, the victim realized her wallet was missing. After viewing the restaurant’s surveillance footage, officers were able to see the female suspect reach behind her chair in the direction of the victim’s purse.

The victim was in the process of notifying her credit card company of the loss when she was advised by them that two of her credit cards had been used at Target, 811 Town Center Drive, to purchase over $1,600.00 worth of gift cards.  The two suspects then left the area in a green sedan.  Target’s surveillance system captured images of the two leaving the store and the vehicle on the lot.

Anyone with information in this case is asked to call Central Shenandoah Crime Stoppers at 1(800) 322-2017.  Information given to Crime Stoppers may be given anonymously.  Callers with information that lead to an arrest in this case are eligible for a cash reward of up to $1000.
