Waynesboro couple arrested in sophisticated marijuana grow operation

Ackleson Derick HeathSnead Amy MaryThe Waynesboro Police Department has arrested a Waynesboro couple on drug and weapons charges after a sophisticated marijuana “grow operation” was located at a city residence.

Derick Heath Ackleson, 42, and Amy Mary Snead, 33, both face a felony charge of the manufacture of marijuana with the intent to distribute.  Ackleson also faces a felony charge of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

The police department was notified on Wednesday about a house in the 100 block of South Delphine Avenue that appeared to have marijuana plants growing on the property. When an officer inspected the property, he found several marijuana plants. Ackleson, the owner of Totally Naked Tattoos in Staunton, is listed as the renter of the home.

On Thursday, officers and drug investigators arrested Ackleson and Snead at their residence at 1132 Jefferson Ave.  in Waynesboro. They also served two search warrants at both residences.  At the Jefferson Avenue residence, they seized a handgun, hundreds of rounds of ammunition and approximately $4,500 in cash.

Ackleson is being held without bond at Middle River Regional Jail.  Snead is free on bond.
