Daniel Murphy homered twice in support of Max Scherzer to key a 4-2 win for the Washington Nationals over the New York Mets on Wednesday.
The win completes a three-game sweep for the Nats (47-32).
Scherzer (9-5, 3.30 ERA, 0.96 WHIP) was Uber Scherzer, striking out 10, walking one and giving up two hits in seven and two-thirds scoreless innings.
Shawn Kelley (4 saves, 5 holds, 3.00 ERA, 0.93 WHIP) held on for the save, giving up a two-run homer in the ninth to James Loney before closing things out.
Murphy (.352/.394/.590, 14 HR, 53 RBI) hit a solo homer in the second and a two-run shot in the eighth for Washington, which has a five and a half game lead on the Miami Marlins (41-37) in the National League East.
The Mets (40-37) are six back.
Washington hosts Cincinnati on Thursday in the first game of a four-game weekend set at Nationals Park.
