VMI head basketball coach Dan Earl announced the signings of three recruits to National Letters-of-Intent. Joining the Keydet basketball program beginning in 2016-17 will be 6-10, 240 center Tyler Creammer, 6-8, 200 forward Will Miller, and 6-2, 180 guard Drew Rackley.
“We are very excited about our fall of 2016 recruiting class of Drew Rackley, Will Miller and Tyler Creammer and their committing to play for us at VMI,” said Earl. “All three student athletes are quality players, very good students, and great people – who fit our mission and philosophy here at VMI. We are thrilled to have them as a part of our VMI Basketball Program and know that they have very bright futures.”
Creammer, from Parkton, N.C., attends the Miller School in the Charlottesville, Va. area after playing previously at South View High School in Hope Mills, N.C. Creammer averaged 10 points and 10 rebounds as a junior and was selected team defensive player of the year in 2013-14. At South View, he set the single game mark for rebounds with 23. His top prep games include 16 points, 17 rebounds against Prominence Academy, 16 points and 20 rebounds against Elite Prep, 18 points, 12 rebounds against Hargrave post-grad, and 17 points, 8 rebounds against Fishburne post grad.
COACH EARL ON CREAMMER – “Tyler Creammer is a hard playing 6’10 post player who can defend, rebound, and has the ability to score in the paint. He is also a skilled player who can step out, make face up jump shots, and be a threat on the perimeter. Playing a very competitive schedule at the Miller School with Coach Danny Manuel and with Boo Williams on the AAU Circuit has helped him tremendously over the last few years. We believe that he is only scratching the surface and has a very bright future here at VMI.”
Miller attends Halifax County High School in South Boston, Virginia where he has earned first team All-District and All-Conference honors as well as second team 5A North Region recognition. He has played on two conference championship and once district champion teams. While playing at Halifax, Miller and teammates have lost only two home games in two years. He also played Team Richmond AAU team.
COACH EARL ON MILLER – “Will Miller is a skilled 6’7 forward with a high basketball IQ. He is extremely vocal on the court and is a tremendous passer. Being able to dribble, pass and shoot will make him a tough match up on offense. His length and ability to move laterally will also help him defend multiple positions. Playing for longtime college coaches Larry Epperly at Halifax County and Del Harris with Team Richmond will prove to be great preparation for Will as he makes his move to Division 1 basketball. “
Rackley as a junior at John Glenn High School in New Concord, Ohio averaged 21 points and seven rebounds and was a first team All-Ohio selection and was nominated for Mr. Basketball as a junior. He was named District Player of the Year and helped lead his team to two straight league titles and back-to-back final appearances.
COACH EARL ON RACKLEY – “Drew Rackley is a versatile point guard that can play both on and off the ball and can create plays for himself and his teammates. He can score in a variety of ways and will help us stretch the floor with his shooting ability. He is a winner and has demonstrated a strong ability to lead his teammates both on and off the court. He played for an AAU program – Team Work – that plays great team basketball. Furthermore, Greg Woodard’s system at John Glenn High School is very similar to how we want to play here at VMI, which will help to ease the transition to The Southern Conference.”
