Virginia State Police Sr. Trooper E.D. Everhart responded to a two-vehicle crash Saturday (July 26) in Nelson County. The crash occurred at 10:30 a.m., at the intersection of Routes 29 and 56.

A 2009 Harley-Davidson FLHT was traveling south on Route 29. A 2010 Honda Civic was northbound on Route 29 and had pulled into the crossover to make a left turn onto Route 56. The Honda Civic pulled across the southbound lanes and into the path of the Harley-Davidson. The motorcycle was unable to avoid striking the Civic and the two vehicles collided.

The motorcyclist, Michael S. Murphy, 47, of Annapolis, Md., died at the scene. He was wearing a helmet.

The driver of the Honda, Peggy R. Arnold, 66, Huntington, Md., was not injured in the crash. She was charged with reckless driving.

The crash remains under investigation.
