Virginia State Police investigating fatal car accident on Route 250 in Augusta County

policecar3At 6:18 p.m. Monday (April 20), Virginia State Police responded to a two-vehicle crash in Augusta County. The crash occurred at the intersection of Route 250 and Route 792.

A 2001 Pontiac Grand Am was westbound on Route 250 and in the process of making a left turn onto Route 792, when it was struck in the passenger’s side by a 2001 Chevrolet Suburban. The Suburban was traveling east on Route 250 and failed to stop for the red light.

The driver and passenger in the Grand Am both died at the scene. State police are still in the process of notifying next of kin.

The driver and adult male passenger in the Suburban were transported to Augusta Health for treatment of minor injuries. The driver, Kenneth L. Barber, 60, of Crozet, Va., has since been transported to Middle River Regional Jail and charged with two counts of DUI manslaughter (Code of Virginia 18.2-36.1).

The crash remains under investigation at this time.

Route 250 was re-opened by 8 p.m.
