We hit a home run with the topic of baseball, and therefore we are happy to offer a second behind the scenes tour at the Virginia Historical Society on Saturday, July 26, at 1:00 p.m. (The first tour at 10:30 a.m. has sold out.) Batter Up: Baseball Memorabilia in the VHS Collection will take guests into areas of the society not normally open to the public as we look at unique and interesting items in the VHS collection related to baseball.
From early accounts of bat-and-ball games played in colonial Virginia to Nutzy and the Richmond Flying Squirrels, baseball has long been a part of Virginia history and culture. We’ll go behind the scenes to look at memorabilia, jerseys, equipment, photographs, and baseball cards. With topics ranging from little league to professional teams and all-star icons from Babe Ruth to Justin Verlander, we’ll round them all to explore Virginia’s national past time. Sorry, no peanuts or cotton candy allowed.
Tickets are $10 for VHS members and $17 for non-members. Reservations are encouraged as space is limited for this program. Please meet in the Museum Shop to begin the tour.
