VDOT Staunton District Traffic Alert: June 30-July 4

road-work-headerThe following is a list of highway work that might affect traffic in the Staunton transportation district during the coming weeks. The Staunton VDOT district is comprised of 11 counties: Alleghany, Bath, Rockbridge, Augusta, Highland, Rockingham, Shenandoah, Frederick, Page, Warren and Clarke.

Work scheduled is subject to change due to inclement weather and material supplies. Motorists are advised to watch for slow-moving tractors during mowing operations. Also, when traveling through a work zone, be alert to periodic changes in traffic patterns and lane closures.

ALLEGHANY COUNTY

INTERSTATE 64

(NEW) Mile marker 3 to 6, eastbound – Lane and shoulder closures as needed for shoulder repairs Tuesday andWednesday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

MILE marker 41 to 0, eastbound and westbound – Be alert for crews removing debris and cleaning paved ditches and bridge slopes. Wednesday to Thursday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 42 – Mobile flagger traffic control for alternating lane closures, Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. for pavement work.  Work zone extends from
I-64 east Ramp 29A at Route 632 to the Bath/Alleghany county line. Estimated completion December 2014.

(NEW) Various roads – Mowing with a mobile operation. Brush cutting and pipe replacement with flagger traffic control. Monday to Thursday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

(NEW) Route 600 (Gravel Ridge Road) – Lane closures as needed for paving operations for 2.2 miles between Route 311 (Kanawha Trail) and Route 604 (Snake Run Road). Work zone controlled by flaggers and pilot vehicle, July 2 and July 37 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Route 606 (Sioux Street, Clifton Forge) – Right shoulder closure with intermittent flagging for box culvert construction work under I-64.  Estimated completion June 15, 2015.

(NEW) Route 610 (Bennettown Road) – Lane closures as needed for paving operations for 2.65 miles between end of state maintenance and Route 18 (Potts Creek Road). Work zone controlled by flaggers and pilot vehicle, June 30 andJuly 17 a.m. to 5 p.m.

(NEW) Route 616 (Summit Drive) – Lane closures as needed for paving operations for 1.6 miles between Route 612 (Uplands Road) and Route 613 (Bens Run Road).  Work zone controlled by flaggers and pilot vehicle, June 27, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

(NEW) Route 678 (Stringer Road) – Lane closures as needed for paving operations for 0.08 miles between Route 311 (Kanawha Trail) and end of state maintenance. Work zone controlled by flaggers and pilot vehicle, July 7, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

(NEW) Various roads – Mowing with a mobile operation. Brush cutting, patching  and pipe replacement with flagger traffic control. Monday to Thursday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 

 

BATH COUNTY

PRIMARY ROADS

(NEW) Various roads – Mowing with a mobile operation.  Patching with flagger traffic control. Monday to Thursday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 687 (Jackson River Turnpike) – Flagger traffic control at various locations for bridge work over Cowardin Run. Work zone is 0.45 mile north of Route 618 to 0.55 miles north of Route 618.  Estimated completion Sept. 24, 2014.

(NEW) Various roads – Mowing with a mobile operation. Brush cutting and ditching with flagger traffic control.Monday to Thursday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 

 

ROCKBRIDGE COUNTY

INTERSTATE 64

Mile marker 41 to 57, eastbound and westbound –Be alert for crews removing debris, cleaning paved ditches. Tuesdayto Thursday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.  

Mile marker 51.4 to 55.2 eastbound and mile marker 56.7 to 53.6 westbound – Left shoulder and lane closures for the Maury River bridges rehabilitation project. 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. daily. Estimated completion is Oct. 6, 2016.

 

INTERSTATE 81

Mile marker 173 to 205, northbound and southbound – Be alert for crews removing debris, and cleaning bridge slopes.  Monday to Thursday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

(UPDATE) Mile marker 190 to 195.4, northbound – Lane closures as needed for paving operations.  June 27 and June 2810 p.m. to 9 a.m., June 29, 10 p.m. to 7 a.m., and June 30 through July 3, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. each night.

Exit 200, northbound – Alternating lane closures for on-ramp and off-ramp paving. Sunday through Thursday, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m.  Estimated completion December 2014.

Mile marker 205.1 to 200.15, including ramp 200A, southbound – Alternating lane closures for pavement work.Monday to Thursday, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. each day.  Estimated completion December 2014.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 11 – Alternating lane closures from Rockbridge/Augusta county line to Route 710 (Fairfield town limits). Mondayto Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. for pavement work. Estimated completion December 2014.

Route 39 – Alternating lane closures, with flagging operations and pilot truck for traffic control. Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. for pavement work.  Work zone extends from 0.41 mile east of Route 751 to Route 11. Estimated completion December 2014.

(NEW) Route 252 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Thursday.

(NEW) Various roads – Mowing with a mobile operation. Patching, pipe replacement, brush cutting, ditching and pothole repairs with flagger traffic control. Monday to Thursday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

No lane closures reported.

 

INTERSTATE 81

Mile marker 205 to 237, northbound and southbound – Be alert for crews removing debris, cleaning bridge slopes/ditches and repairing mile marker signs. Monday to Thursday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Mile marker 206 to 211, southbound – Alternating lane closures for nighttime pavement work. Monday to Thursday, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m.  Estimated completion December 2014.

Mile marker 219 to 217, southbound – Alternating lane closures for nighttime pavement work. Sunday to Thursday, 7 p.m. to 8 a.m.  Estimated completion December 2014.

Mile marker 221– Shoulder closure for bridge work on Route 635 (Barterbrook Road)  overpass. Monday toThursday, 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Estimated completion July 11, 2014.

Mile marker 224 – Shoulder closures as needed for bridge repairs on Route 254 (New Hope Road) over I-81. Monday to Thursday, 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Estimated

completion July 11, 2014.

(NEW) Mile marker 238 to 223, southbound – Lane closures as needed for nighttime milling and paving at various locations.  Sunday June 29 through Wednesday July 2, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. nightly.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 42 – Alternating lane closures for pavement work 0.27 mile south of Route 754 to 0.04 mile south of Route 809.Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Estimated completion December 2014.

Route 250 – Traffic restricted to single 12 foot lane during Ramsey’s Draft bridge replacement.  Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Traffic controlled by temporary signal. Work zone 1.036 mile west of Route 716 to 1.124 mile west of Route 716.  Estimated completion April 30, 2015.

Route 252 – Alternating lane closures as needed for pavement work from just south of Route 701 to 0.36 miles north of Route 802. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Estimated completion December 2014.

Route 254 (New Hope Road) – Flagger controlled lane closures as needed for bridge repairs at I-81 overpass, 0.07 miles from Staunton city limits and 1.32 mile from Route 929.  Monday to Thursday, 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.  Estimated completion July 11, 2014.

Route 262 – Alternating lane closures with flagger operations for pavement work starting at 0.28 miles west of Route 11, westbound to Route 252 and includes Route 252 ramp, Route 720 ramp, Route 254 ramp and Route 250 ramp.Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Route 340 (Stuarts Draft Highway) – Intersection work from Route 654  to Route 831. Traffic signal at Route 657 intersection may be disabled during flagger traffic control. Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.  Estimated completionAug. 6, 2014.

Various roads – Lane and shoulder closures as needed for pipe installation, patching, brush cutting, shoulder repairs, ditching operations and grading.  Monday – Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

(NEW) Route 604 (McClures Mill Road, near Greenville) – Road closed July 15 at 7:30 a.m. for a box culvert replacement for existing bridge over Christians Creek.  Estimated completion August 26, 2014. Work zone is 0.27 mile from Route 817 (Hawpe Road) and 0.01 mile to route 817 (Spring Leigh Road).  A detour is in place with posted signs.

Route 616 (Grey Fox Road) – Road closed June 23 at 7:30 a.m. for a box culvert replacement for existing bridge over a “wet weather” stream. Estimated completion July 15, 2014. Work zone is 1.05 mile from Route 804 (Salem Church Road) to 0.03 mile from Route 746 (Seawright Road).  A detour is in place with posted signs.

Route 635 (Barterbrook Road) –  Flagger controlled lane closures as needed for bridge repairs on Route 635 over I-81.  Monday to Thursday, 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Estimated completion July 11, 2014.

Route 759 – Periodic road closures for a Rural Rustic Road construction project.  Monday – Friday, 7:30 a .m. to 3 p.m. between Route 761 and Route 756 (Buck Hill Road).  Posted detours will be in place using Route 756 to Route 730 to Route 761.  Estimated completion Aug. 8, 2014.

Various roads – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

Various roads – Lane and shoulder closures as needed for pipe installation, patching, brush cutting, shoulder repairs, ditching operations and grading.  Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

 

 

ROCKINGHAM COUNTY 

INTERSTATE 81

Mile marker 237 to 264, northbound and southbound – Be alert for debris, cleaning paved ditches and hand mowing. Pothole repairs as needed. Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

(UPDATE) Exit 251, northbound and southbound – Work will be suspended from June 29 through July 5.  Work will resume July 7 and include nighttime on- and off-ramps restrictions of  10’ lane width for shoulder work and guardrail installation, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m.  Estimated project completion July 31, 2014.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 33 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

Route 340 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

Various roads – Lane and shoulder closures as needed for pipe installation, patching, brush cutting, shoulder repairs, ditching operations and grading.  Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 704 (Oakwood Drive, Bridgewater area) – Traffic using temporary two-lane bridge over Cooks Creek. Periodic flagging for construction vehicle access. Work zone from 0.70 mile west of Route 712 to 0.58 mile west of route 712. Estimated completion Oct. 31, 2014.

Route 726 (Stone Spring Road and Peach Grove Avenue) – Motorists should be alert for shoulder closures and occasional flagger controlled lane closures on the Route 280 Southeast Connector project. Work zone extends from 0.51 mile east of Harrisonburg city limits to 0.15 mile west of city limits. Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Estimated completion November 2014.

Route 745 (Martin Miller Road) – Pipe work from Route 257 (Ottobine Road) to Route 744 (Dry Hollow Road). Periodic, short duration closures, 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.  Follow posted detours.  Follow posted detour.

Route 754 (Berrytown Road) – Road closed for bridge work between Route 649 and Route 630, near the town of Elkton. Southbound traffic will detour north on Route 754, south on Route 340, and north on Route 649 to Route 754. Northbound traffic will detour south on Route 754, south on Route 649, and north on Route 340 to Route 754. Estimated completion July 8.

Various roads – Lane and shoulder closures as needed for pipe installation, patching, brush cutting, shoulder repairs, ditching operations and grading. Mowing, litter pickup and pavement repairs as need in the Mount Crawford area.

Various roads – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

 

PAGE COUNTY

PRIMARY ROADS

Various roads – Lane and shoulder closures as needed for pipe installation, patching, brush cutting, shoulder repairs, ditching operations and grading.  Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

(NEW) Route 682 – Flagger controlled lane closures beginning July 2 for paving, shoulder work and line painting.  Work zone is 0.87 mile south of Route 624 to end of state maintenance.  Monday to Thursday, 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.   Estimated completion July 18.

Route 759 (Jollett Road) – Bridge replacement. Roadway will be restricted to 11’2” widths during the project. Traffic will be controlled by temporary signal.  Work zone 0.50 miles east of Route 607 (Weaver Road. Estimated completion July 21, 2014.

Various roads – Lane and shoulder closures as needed for pipe installation, patching, brush cutting, shoulder repairs, ditching operations and grading.  Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

 

 

SHENANDOAH COUNTY

INTERSTATE 81

Mile marker 264 to 300, northbound and southbound – Be alert for debris removal, brush cleanup operations and hand mowing. Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

(UPDATE) Mile marker 265 to 275, northbound.  Nighttime left lane closures at various locations June 30 through to July 2, 7 p.m. to 9 a.m. each night for milling and paving. Estimated project completion July 31, 2014.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 42 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

(NEW) Route 211 (Lee Highway) – Single lane closure June 30 through July 2 along a three-lane stretch of the road about 0.3 miles west of Route 674 (Run Away Lane) near New Market for pipe replacement under the roadway.  Beginning at 8 a.m. June 30, the westbound lane of Route 211 will be closed. The two eastbound lanes will accommodate both directions of traffic from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day. Flagging crews will control traffic during those hours. Estimated completion 6 p.m. July 2.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 760 (Water Street) – Flagger controlled traffic from Route 1403 to 0.30 mile east for bridge replacement over Stoney Creek. Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.  Estimated completion June 2015.

Route 770 (Boliver Street, Fort Valley area) – Closed June 23 at 8 a.m. from 0 .25-mile south of Route 758 (Woodstock Tower Road) to 2.15-miles north of Route 803 for bridge deck replacement. Estimated completion July 2014.  Detours:  Northbound traffic will use Route 803 (Oak Tree Road) east to Route 678 (Fort Valley Road), north to Route 758 (Woodstock Tower Road) west.  Southbound traffic will use Route 758 (Woodstock Tower Road) east to Route 678 (Fort Valley Road), south to Route 803 (Oak Tree Road) west to Route 770 (Boliver Road).

Various roads – Mowing, pipe cleaning, brush cutting, shoulder repair and ditching . Monday to Friday.

FREDERICK COUNTY

INTERSTATE 81

Mile marker 300 to 324, northbound and southbound – Be alert for debris removal, bridge cleaning and shoulder mowing. Pothole repairs as needed. Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

(NEW) Mile marker 304, northbound and southbound – Nighttime right lane closures to allow maintenance of “Open/Close“ overhead sign. July 1 and July 2, 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. each night.

 

 

PRIMARY ROADS

(NEW) Route 277 (Fairfax Pike) – Single lane closure between Route 1018 (VDOT Lane) and Route 641 (Double Church Road) for turn lane construction. June 30 through July 3, 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Work Zone controlled by flaggers.

(NEWRoute 277 (Fairfax Pike) – Single lane closure between Route 522 (Front Royal Pike) and Route 636 (White Oak Road) for commercial entrance improvements.  June 30 through July 3, 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.  Work Zone controlled by flaggers.

Route 522 – Shoulder closures north bound lane for the installation of fiber optic conduit between Route 679 and the West Virginia Line.  Estimated completion is Oct. 1, 2014.

Various roads – Mowing. Monday to Thursday.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

(NEW) Various roads – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

Various roads – Mowing, shoulder work and pipe cleaning. Monday to Friday.

 

 

CLARKE COUNTY

 

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 7 Business West (Town of Berryville) – Flagger controlled lane closures as needed for paving operations from Route 340 to 2.0 miles west.  Monday to Friday, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. Motorists should expect minor delays. Estimated completion July 11.

Route 7 Business East (Town of Berryville) – Flagger controlled lane closures as needed for paving operations from Route 700 to 0.85 miles east.  Monday to Friday, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. Motorists should expect minor delays. Estimated completion July 11.

Route 340 – Flagger traffic control from Route 522 to 3.92 miles north for paving operations. 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. Estimated completion June 27, 2014.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Various roads – Scraping and mowing. Monday to Friday.

 

 

WARREN COUNTY

INTERSTATE 66

Mile marker 0 to 7, eastbound – Single lane closures as needed for line painting operations, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.  Estimated completion June 27, 2014.

Mile marker 0 to 15, westbound and southbound – Be alert for debris removal and shoulder mowing. Pot hole repairs as needed. Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

INTERSTATE 81

No lane closures reported.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

(UPDATE) Route 340 (Stonewall Jackson Highway) – 24-hour a day flagging operations with stone detour for pipe installation June 30 to July 3. This project is about four miles south of Front Royal and part of the bridge replacement work over Gooney Creek. Work zone from 0.67 miles south of Route 605 to 0.35 miles north of Route 605.  Other project work has traffic controlled by flaggers Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Motorists should expect minor delays. Estimated completion October 2015.

Route 340/522 (North Shenandoah Avenue/Winchester Road), from Duck Street to 17th Street – Old South Fork bridge replacement and interchange modification at Route 55 (Strasburg Road) and 340/522.  Daily lane closures, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and nightly lane closures, 9 p.m. to 7 a.m., Monday through Friday.  Motorists are advised to allow more time in daily commutes. Estimated completion December 2017.

Route 522 (Remount Road) – Single lane closure for slope repairs. The work zone is at the intersection of Route 604 (Harmony Hollow Road) just south of Front Royal. Traffic controlled by temporary signal on both roads. Signs and variable message boards will alert motorists to 35 mph speed limit through the work zone. Drivers can expect potential delays during the repairs. Estimated completion July 2, 2014.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 603 (Oregon Hollow Road) – Traffic controlled by flaggers Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 5:30 for reconstruction of Route 603 from Route 647 (Dismal Hollow Road) to 0.05 miles north of Route 647 (Dismal Hollow Road). Estimated completion December 2014.

Route 613 (Indian Hollow Road) – Traffic controlled by flaggers Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. for replacement of low water bridge over South Fork of Shenandoah River. Work zone from Route 628 to 0.35 miles north. Estimated completion October 2014.

Various roads – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

Various roads – Mowing and grading. Monday to Friday.

Vegetation management may take place district wide on various routes.

Motorists are reminded to use extreme caution when traveling through work zones.

For other assistance call the VDOT Customer Service Center, available 24 hours-a-day, seven days a week. Citizens can dial 1-800-FOR- ROAD (1-800-367-7623) from anywhere in the state to report road hazards, ask transportation questions, or get information related to Virginia’s roads.
