road-work-headerThe following is a list of highway work that might affect traffic in the Staunton VDOT transportation district during the coming weeks. The Staunton district is comprised of 11 counties: Alleghany, Bath, Rockbridge, Augusta, Highland, Rockingham, Shenandoah, Frederick, Page, Warren and Clarke. Work scheduled is subject to change due to inclement weather and material supplies. Motorists are advised to watch for slow-moving tractors during mowing operations. Also, when traveling through a work zone, be alert to periodic changes in traffic patterns and lane closures.

ALLEGHANY COUNTY

INTERSTATE 64

MILE marker 0 to 41, eastbound and westbound – Be alert for crews removing debris, cleaning bridge slopes and paved ditches. Tuesday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

(NEW) MILE marker 17 to 18, eastbound – Cleaning around storm water ponds. Tuesday to Thursday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 42 – Mobile flagger traffic control for alternating lane closures, Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. for pavement work.  Work zone extends from
I-64 east Ramp 29A at Route 632 to the Bath/Alleghany county line. Estimated completion December 2014.

Route 220 – Mobile flagger traffic control for alternating lane closures, Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. for pavement work.  Work zone extends from the start of Route 220 Business to 0.80 mile south of Clifton Forge town limits. Estimated completion December 2014.

(UPDATE) Various roads – Mowing, patching and ditching with flagger traffic control. Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 606 (Sioux Street, Clifton Forge) – Right shoulder closure with intermittent flagging for box culvert construction work under I-64.  Estimated completion June 15, 2015.

(UPDATE) Various roads – Mowing, patching and ditching with flagger traffic control. Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 

BATH COUNTY

PRIMARY ROADS

(NEW) Various roads – Mowing with a mobile operation. Patching with flagger traffic control.  Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 687 (Jackson River Turnpike) – Flagger traffic control at various locations for bridge work over Cowardin Run. Work zone is 0.45 mile north of Route 618 to 0.55 miles north of Route 618.  Estimated completion Sept. 24, 2014.

(NEW) Various roads – Mowing with a mobile operation. Patching and ditching with flagger traffic control.  Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 

ROCKBRIDGE COUNTY

INTERSTATE 64

Mile marker 41 to 57, eastbound and westbound – Be alert for crews removing debris and cleaning paved ditches.Tuesday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Mile marker 51.4 to 55.2 eastbound and mile marker 56.7 to 53.6 westbound – Left shoulder and lane closures for the Maury River bridges rehabilitation project. 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. daily. Estimated completion is Oct. 6, 2016.

 

INTERSTATE 81

(UPDATE) Mile marker 173 to 205, northbound and southbound – Be alert for crews removing debris, cleaning bridge slopes, ditches and around storm water ponds. Tuesday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Mile marker 190 to 195.4, northbound – Lane closures as needed for paving operations.  June 1, 10 p.m. to 7 a.m. and June 2 through June 6, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. each night.

(NEW) Mile marker 199 to 202, northbound for pavement work:

June 1 and June 2 – Right and center lane closures from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. each night.

June 3, June 4, June 5 – Left and center lane closures from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. each night.

(UPDATE) Mile marker 205.1 to 200.15, including ramp 200A, southbound – Alternating lane closures for pavement work. Monday to Friday, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. each day.  Estimated completion December 2014.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 11 – Alternating lane closures from Rockbridge/Augusta county line to Route 710 (Fairfield town limits). Mondayto Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. for pavement work. Estimated completion December 2014.

Route 39 – Alternating lane closures, with flagging operations and pilot truck for traffic control. Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. for pavement work.  Work zone extends from 0.41 mile east of Route 751 to Route 11. Estimated completion December 2014.

Route 60 – Alternating lane closures, Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. for pavement work.  Work zone extends from Route 850, the south end of the bridge over I-64, to west of Lexington city limits.  Estimated completion December 2014.

SECONDARY ROADS

(NEW) Various roads – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

(UPDATE) Various roads – Brush cutting, pipe replacement, patching, spot leveling, shoulder repairs, and ditching with flagger traffic control. Mowing with a mobile operation. Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 

 

HIGHLAND COUNTY

PRIMARY ROADS

(UPDATE) Route 220 – Asphalt pavement repairs at various locations with flagger traffic control. Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

(UPDATE) Route 250 – Ditching, pothole repairs and patching at locations with flagger traffic control. Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 607 (Big Valley Road) – Asphalt pavement work with flagger traffic control. Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Route 614 (Cowpasture River South) – Rural Rustic tar and gravel road surface work with flagger traffic control.Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Route 614 (Headwaters area) – Single lane closure with a 10-foot road width limit for bridge deck replacement over the South Fork South Branch of Potomac River. Work zone is 0.07 mile south of Route 620 (Brushy Fork Road) and 0.01 mile north of Route 620 (Spring Run Road). Daytime flagger traffic control and nighttime stop and proceed when clear.  Estimated completion June 13, 2014.

(NEW) Various roads – Mowing with a mobile operation.  Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 

AUGUSTA COUNTY

INTERSTATE 64

(UPDATE) Exit 87, westbound – Shoulder closure for bridge work at I-81 interchange. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Estimated completion July 11, 2014.

 

INTERSTATE 81

(NEW) Mile marker 205 to 237, northbound and southbound – Lane and/or shoulder closures as needed for nighttime mowing.  Wednesday through Saturday, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. each night.

(UPDATE) Mile marker 205 to 237, northbound and southbound – Be alert for crews removing debris, cleaning bridge slopes and paved ditches, mowing, weed eating, litter removal. Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Mile marker 219 to 217, southbound – Lane closure for nighttime pavement work. Sunday to Thursday, 7 p.m. to 8 a.m.  Estimated completion December 2014.

(UPDATE) Exit 221, northbound and southbound – Shoulder closure for bridge work at I-64 interchange. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Estimated completion July 11, 2014.

(NEW) Mile marker 224 – Shoulder closures as needed for bridge repairs on Route 254 (New Hope Road) over I-81.  Monday to Thursday, 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Estimated completion July 11, 2014.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

(UPDATE) Route 11 (Lee-Jackson Highway – Town of Greenville) – Single lane and shoulder closures as needed with flagging operations from Route 657 (Indian Ridge Road) to Route 1202 (Church Street) for paving and curb installation as part of sanitary sewer project. Monday to Friday, weather permitting. Estimated completion June 20, 2014.

Route 42 – Alternating lane closures for pavement work 0.27 mile south of Route 754 to 0.04 mile south of Route 809.Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Estimated completion December 2014.

Route 250 – Traffic restricted to single 12 foot lane during Ramsey’s Draft bridge replacement.  Traffic controlled by temporary signal. Work zone 1.036 mile west of Route 716 to 1.124 mile west of Route 616.  Estimated completionApril 30, 2015.

Route 252 – Alternating lane closures as needed for pavement work from just south of Route 701 to 0.36 miles north of Route 802. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Estimated completion December 2014.

(NEW) Route 254 (New Hope Road) – Flagger controlled lane closures as needed for bridge repairs at I-81 overpass, 0.07 miles from Staunton City Limits and 1.32 mile from Route 929.  Monday to Thursday, 6:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.  Estimated completion July 11, 2014.

Route 340 (Stuarts Draft Highway) – Intersection work from Route 654 to Route 831. Traffic signal at Route 657 intersection may be disabled during flagger traffic control. Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.  Estimated completionAug. 6, 2014.

Various roads – Lane and shoulder closures as needed for pipe installation, patching, brush cutting, shoulder repairs, ditching operations and grading.  Monday – Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

(UPDATE) Route 662 (Stover School Road) – Shoulder closures and possible single lane closure from Route 11 to Route 916 (View Street) for seeding work as part of sanitary sewer project. Estimated completion June 10, 2014.

(NEW) Route 759 – Period road closures for a Rural Rustic Road construction project beginning June 2Monday – Friday, 7:30 a .m. to 3 p.m. between Route 761 and Route 756 (Buck Hill Road).  Posted detours will be in place using Route 756 to Route 730 to Route 761.  Estimated completion Aug. 8, 2014.

(UPDATE) Route 916 (View Street) – Possible single lane closure from Route 662 (Stover School Road) south for seeding work as part of the sewer project. Estimated completion June 20, 2014.

(UPDATE) Route 1201 (Palmer Street) – Possible lane closure from Route 662 (Stover School Road) to Route 1201 (Graham Street) for seeding work as part of sewer project. Estimated completion June 20, 2014.

(UPDATE) Pen Apple Lane – Road closed from Route 1205 (Main Street) to Route 11 for related sewer project work. Estimated completion June 20, 2014.

(NEW) Various roads – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

Various roads – Lane and shoulder closures as needed for pipe installation, patching, brush cutting, shoulder repairs, ditching operations and grading.  Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

 

 

ROCKINGHAM COUNTY

INTERSTATE 81

(UPDATE) Mile marker 237 to 264, northbound and southbound – Be alert for debris, hand cleaning paved ditches, and shoulder mowing. Pothole repairs as needed. Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

(NEW) Mile marker 244 to 245 – Alternating lane and shoulder closures for bridge inspection at Route 726 (Stone Spring Road) overpass.  June 4, 8 p.m. to 3 a.m.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

(NEW) Route 33 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

(NEW) Route 340 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

Various roads – Lane and shoulder closures as needed for pipe installation, patching, brush cutting, shoulder repairs, ditching operations and grading.  Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 704 (Oakwood Drive – Bridgewater area) – Traffic using temporary two-lane bridge over Cooks Creek. Periodic flagging for construction vehicle access. Work zone from 0.70 mile west of Route 712 to 0.58 mile west of route 712. Estimated completion Oct. 31, 2014.

Route 726 (Stone Spring Road and Peach Grove Avenue) – New road construction to extend Southeast Connector in county. Shoulder closures controlled by signs. Possible lane closures controlled by flaggers. Work zone extends from 0.51 mile east of Harrisonburg city limits to 0.15 mile west of city limits. Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Estimated completion November 2014.

(NEW) Route 738 – Flagger traffic control for roadway surface treatment between Route 613 and Route 257.  Estimated completion June 4, 2014.

(NEW) Route 754 (Berrytown Road) – Road closed for bridge work between Route 649 and Route 630, near the town of Elkton. June 9 at 8 a.m. to approximately July 8.  Southbound traffic will detour north on Route 754, south on Route 340, and north on Route 649 to Route 754. Northbound traffic will detour south on Route 754, south on Route 649, and north on Route 340 to Route 754.

(UPDATE) Mile marker 265 to 275, northbound – Overnight left lane closures at various locations for endwall installations.  June 2 to June 5, 7 p.m. to 9 a.m. each night.  Estimated project completion June 26, 2014, weather permitting.

(NEW) Route 42 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

Route 760 (Water Street) – Flagger controlled traffic from Route 1403 to 0.30 mile east for bridge replacement over Stoney Creek. Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.  Estimated completion June 2015.

FREDERICK COUNTY

INTERSTATE 81

(UPDATE) Mile marker 300 to 324, northbound and southbound – Be alert for debris removal and shoulder mowing. Pothole repairs as needed. Monday, Thursday  and Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

(NEW) Mile marker 312 to 313 – Shoulder closures for bridge inspection at Route 17 overpass.  June 3, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

(NEW) Route 522 – Shoulder closures north bound lane for the installation of fiber optic conduit between Route 679 and the West Virginia Line.  Estimated completion is Oct. 1, 2014.

Various roads – Mowing. Monday to Thursday.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

(NEW) Route 600 (Siler Road) – Flagger controlled lane closures as needed for paving operations. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Motorists should expect minor delays.

CLARKE COUNTY

PRIMARY ROADS

(NEW) Route 7 Business East (Town of Berryville) – Flagger controlled lane closures as needed for paving operations from Route 700 to 0.85 miles east.  Monday to Friday, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. Motorists should expect minor delays. Estimated completion June 13.

Various roads – Mowing. Monday to Thursday.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

(NEW) Various roads – Grading and pipe cleaning. Monday to Friday.

 

 

WARREN COUNTY

INTERSTATE 66

(UPDATE) Mile marker 0 to 15, eastbound and westbound – Be alert for debris removal and fence repair. Pot hole repairs as needed. Monday to Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

INTERSTATE 81

No lane closures reported.

 

PRIMARY ROADS

Route 340 (Stonewall Jackson Highway) – Bridge replacement work over Gooney Creek from 0.67 miles south of Route 605 to 0.35 miles north of Route 605.  Traffic controlled by flaggers Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Motorists should expect minor delays. Estimated completion October 2015.

Route 340 (Town of Front Royal) – Utility relocations from Duck Street to 17th Street. Lane closures Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.; center turn-lane closures, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; nightly closures, 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., Monday to Friday. Estimated completion spring 2014.

Route 340/522 (North Shenandoah Avenue/Winchester Road), from Duck Street to 17th Street – Old South Fork bridge replacement and interchange modification at Route 55 (Strasburg Road) and 340/522.  Daily lane closures, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and nightly lane closures, 9 p.m. to 7 a.m., Monday through Friday.  Motorists are advised to allow more time in daily commutes. Estimated completion December 2017.

Various roads – Mowing. Monday to Thursday.

 

SECONDARY ROADS

Route 613 (Indian Hollow Road) – Replacement of low-water bridge over South Fork of the Shenandoah River. Work zone is from Route 628 to 0.35 miles north. Flagger traffic control. Monday to Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Expect minor delays. Estimated completion October 2014.

(NEW) Route 627 (Reliance Road) – Road closure 0.2 mile west of Route 736 at 6 a.m. on June 2 to approximately 5 p.m. on June 4 for pipe replacement under the road. All work is weather permitting.  Traffic will detour as follows:  East bound traffic will detour south on Route 637 (North River Road), east on Route 637 (Guard Hill Road), and north on Route 609 (Ritenour Hollow Road) to Route 627.  Westbound traffic will detour south on Route 609 (Ritenour Hollow Road), west on Route 637 (Guard Hill Road), and north on Route 637 (North River Road) to Route 627.

(NEW) Various roads – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Friday.

Vegetation management may take place district wide on various routes.

Motorists are reminded to use extreme caution when traveling through work zones.

Traffic alerts and traveler information can be obtained by dialing 511. Traffic alerts and traveler information also are available at 511Virginia.org. For other assistance call the VDOT Customer Service Center, available 24 hours-a-day, seven days a week. Citizens can dial 1-800-FOR- ROAD (1-800-367-7623) from anywhere in the state to report road hazards, ask transportation questions, or get information related to Virginia’s roads.
