VDOT road work report for July 1-5

vdot logoThe following is a list of highway work that might affect traffic in the Staunton VDOT transportation district during the coming weeks. The Staunton district is comprised of 11 counties, Alleghany, Bath, Rockbridge, Augusta, Highland, Rockingham, Shenandoah, Frederick, Page, Warren and Clarke. Work scheduled is subject to change due to inclement weather and material supplies. Motorists are advised to watch for slow-moving tractors during mowing operations. Also, when traveling through a work zone, be alert to periodic changes in traffic patterns and lane closures.

ALLEGHANY COUNTY

Interstate 64

* Mile marker 0 to 41, eastbound and westbound – Debris removal. Monday to Wednesday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

* Mile marker 7 to 16, eastbound and westbound – Cleaning bridge slopes. Wednesday and Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

 

Primary Roads

* Route 311 (Kanawha Trail) – Fiber optic cable installations both underground and above ground. Work will include shoulder closures and occasional lane closures. Work zone between the West Virginia Line at Sweet Springs and Route 159 (Dunlap Creek Road) and then continuing on Route 311 north to Route 601 (Tuckahoe Road), then continuing on Route 601 to the West Virginia Line. Estimated completion end of July 2013.

 

Secondary Roads

* Route 647 – Pavement work from Hattie Street to Horse Mountain View and Mall Road.  Monday to Wednesday andFriday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Estimated completion November 2013.

* Route 792 – Pavement work from Horse Mountain View to Mallow Road.  Monday to Wednesday and Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Estimated completion November 2013.

BATH COUNTY

ROCKBRIDGE COUNTY

Interstate 64

* Mile marker 41 to 57, eastbound and westbound – Debris removal and cleaning bridge slopes. Monday toWednesday and Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

 

Interstate 81

* (UPDATE) Mile marker 173 to 205.1, northbound and southbound – Patching, debris removal and cleaning bridge slopes. Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

* (NEW) Mile marker 177.2 northbound – Right shoulder closure for repairs to bridge over Route 692 and Cedar Creek. Monday to Wednesday and Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Estimated completion August 2, 2013.

* (UPDATE) Mile marker 180.8, northbound and southbound – Right shoulder closure for bridge repair over Route 11 at Exit 180 (Fancy Hill). Also southbound I-81 left exit ramp narrows.  Monday to Wednesday and Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Estimated completion July 19, 2013. * (UPDATE) Mile marker 195 to 200, northbound – Left lane closures Monday and Tuesday nights, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m.Closures are for Truck Climbing Lane project guardrail work and sign installation.

 

Primary Roads

* (UPDATE) Route 11 at I-81 Exit 180 (Fancy Hill).  Flagger-controlled lane closures for repairs to I-81 bridge.Monday to Wednesday and Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Estimated completion July 19, 2013.

* Route 11 – Paving work from Route 760 (Golf Course Road) to Route 648 (Tinkerville Road). Flagger controlled northbound and southbound lane closures as needed, Monday to Wednesday and Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.Estimated completion November 2013.

* (NEW) Route 39 – Cleaning of bridges over Maury River, Brattons Creek and Mill Creek. Lane closures as needed, controlled by flaggers or message boards. Monday to Wednesday and Friday, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.

* (NEW) Route 42 – Cleaning of bridges over Calfpasture River and Cove Creek. Lane closures as needed, controlled by flaggers or message boards. Monday to Wednesday and Friday, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.

* Route 60 (East Nelson Street, City of Lexington) – Bridge over Varner Lane is closed. East Nelson Street traffic from Washington Street to Randolph Street will be rerouted onto Washington Street for the duration of the bridge reconstruction. Watch for detour signs. Estimated completion is Dec. 2013.

* (NEW) Route 252 – Cleaning of bridges over Moffatts Creek and Hays Creek. Lane closures as needed, controlled by flaggers or message boards. Monday to Wednesday and Friday, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.

* (UPDATE) Various roads – Mowing operations with signs for traffic control. Monday to Wednesday and Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 

Secondary Roads

* (NEW) Route 602 – Cleaning of bridges over Hays Creek and Walkers Creek. Lane closures as needed, controlled by flaggers or message boards. Monday to Wednesday and Friday, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.

* (NEW) Rt. 631 (Furrs Mill Road) – Closed on Tuesday, July 16 and Wednesday, July 17 for a pipe replacement. The road will be closed from Rt. 1125 (High Meadow Drive) to Rt. 769 (Beans River Bottom).  Drivers can use Rt. 631 to Rt. 60 (West Midland Trail) as an alternate route.

* (UPDATE) Route 631 (Old Buena Vista Road) – Closed to through traffic Tuesday or Wednesday, July 1 or 2, during water line replacement project. Work area is between Route 11 and Route 763 (Lincoln Road).

* (NEW) Rt. 689 (Buck Hill Road) – Closed on Tuesday, July 9th from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. for a pipe replacement. The road will be closed from Route 11 to Route 130. Drivers can use Rt. 11 to Rt. 130 as an alternate route.  Alternate weather date is Wednesday, July 10th.

* (NEW) Route 692 — Repairs to I-81 bridge. Flagger controlled lane closures as needed. Monday to Wednesdayand Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Estimated completion August 2, 2013.

* Various roads – Grading, ditching, brush-cutting, patching and pipe replacement with flagger traffic control. Mondayto Wednesday and Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

* (NEW) Route 757 (Stoney Run Road) will be closed on July 17 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. for a pipe replacement. The work zone will be from 0.51 mile south of Route 806 (Riverside Road) and 0.65 mile north of Route 631 (Long Hollow Road.) Alternate rain dates are July 18 or 19.

* Various roads – Grading, ditching, brush-cutting, patching and pipe replacement with flagger control. Mowing with traffic-control signs. Monday to Wednesday and Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3p.m.

* (NEW) Various roads – Utility tree trimming. Flagger traffic control during daylight hours. Monday to Wednesdayand Friday.

 

 

HIGHLAND COUNTY

Primary Roads

* Various roads – Mowing operations with signs for traffic control. Monday to Wednesday and Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

 

Secondary Roads

* (UPDATE) Route 614 (Cowpasture River Road South) – Pipe installation with flagger traffic control. Monday toWednesday and Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

* (UPDATE) Route 614 (Cowpasture River Road North) – Pavement patching and ditch work with flagger traffic control, Monday to Wednesday and Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

* (NEW) Route 615 (Davis Run Road) – Pavement patching with flagger traffic control, Monday to Wednesday andFriday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

* (NEW) Route 634 (Halterman Hollow Lane) – Pavement patching with flagger traffic control, Monday to Wednesdayand Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

* (NEW) Rt. 649 (Myer-Moon Road) – Pavement patching with flagger traffic control, Monday to Wednesday andFriday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

* Route 678 – Box culvert bridge replacement over Crab Run near McDowell. Work zone 1.37 miles south of Route 615 and 1.93 miles from the bridge north to Route 612.  Flagger traffic control during daylight hours, Monday to Wednesday and Friday. Estimated completion August 2, 2013.

 

 

AUGUSTA COUNTY

Interstate 64 * Mile marker 96 to 106 on Afton Mountain, eastbound and westbound – Left lane and right and left shoulder closures for installation of rock safety fencing and cable barrier/guardrail, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Expected completion July 2013.

 

Interstate 81

* (UPDATE) Mile marker 205 to 237, northbound and southbound – Lane closures for nighttime paving operations. Monday and Tuesday, July 1-2, from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m.

* Mile marker 205 to 237, northbound and southbound – Debris removal and cleaning ditches and bridge slopes. Monday to Wednesday and Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

 

Primary Roads

* (UPDATE) Route 11 (Lee Highway, Greenville) – Northbound lane closures for sewer work and seeding,  7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Estimated completion July 6, 2013.

* Route 250, eastbound and westbound – Lane closures as needed for paving from Route 636 to Waynesboro city limits. Flagger traffic control. Sunday to Saturday, 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. Estimated completion November 2013.

* (UPDATE) Route 340 – Waynesboro, Delphine Avenue Project. Sidewalk and entrance work. Be alert for lane closures and flagger traffic control. Monday to Wednesday, 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

* (UPDATE) Route 358 (Woodrow Wilson Avenue) – Closed for paving and sidewalk work from Route 250 (Jefferson Highway) to end of state maintenance. Traffic will be detoured. Estimated completion July 8, 2013.

 

Secondary Roads

* (UPDATE) Route 662 (Greenville School Road) – East of the intersection with Route 1205 (Main Street) for 1.0 mile. Lane closures for sewer construction, 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Estimated completion July 6, 2013. * Route 698 (Wise Hollow Road) – Road construction from Route 690 (Summit Church Road) to the Rockingham County line. Flagger control Monday to Thursday, 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Estimated completion July 31, 2013.

* Route 748 (Flint Hill Road) – Road construction west of Mount Sidney, from Route 626 (Seawright Springs Road) to Route 696 (Sidney Gap Road). Monday through Thursday, 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Estimated completion July 31, 2013, weather permitting.

* Route 818 (Dunsmore Road, Verona) – Pavement work with flagger traffic control. Estimated completion October 2013.

* Route 828 (Cattle Scales Road) – Pavement work with flagger traffic control, Expected completion October 2013. * Route 1050 – Pavement work from intersection with Route 250 (Jefferson Highway) to cul-de-sac. Monday to Wednesday and Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Estimated completion November 2013.

* (UPDATE) Route 1205 (Main Street, Greenville) – Road closed for sewer construction between Route 657 (Indian Ridge Road) and Route 1207 (Wright Lane), 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Estimated completion July 6, 2013.

* Route 1316 – Pavement work from Route 250 (Jefferson Highway) to cul-de-sac. Monday to Wednesday and Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Estimated completion November 2013.

* Route 1510 (Stuart Avenue, Stuarts Draft) – Pavement work with flagger traffic control, Expected completion October 2013.

* (NEW) Various routes in Brookmill Subdivision, Stuarts Draft – Patching and pothole repairs. Flagger controlled traffic 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Estimated completion July 13, 2013.

* Various routes – Grading operations. Monday – Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.  Estimated completion end of summer.

* Various routes – Mowing and patching. Monday to Wednesday and Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

 

ROCKINGHAM COUNTY 

Interstate 81

* Various locations – Guardrail upgrades with daytime shoulder closures. Occasional nighttime lane closures. Monday to Wednesday and Friday, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. Estimated completion January 14, 2014.

 

Primary Roads

* Route 11 (North Valley Pike) – Entrance upgrades between Route 765 (Gravels Road) and I-81 interchange. Flagger-controlled lane and shoulder closures as needed. Monday to Wednesday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Estimated completion July 31, 2013.

* Route 11 (South Main Street) from Route 918 (Mill Street) to 0.2 miles south of Route 918 – Bridge replacement over North River at intersection with Route 727 (Airport Road). Temporary lane shift (10 foot lanes) for duration of the project. Flagging operations as needed. Estimated completion December 6, 2013.

* Route 42 (North Main Street) at the intersection of Route 617 (Church Street) in the town of Timberville – Intermittent lane closures with flagger traffic control for utility work. Monday to Wednesday and Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.  Estimated completion end of summer.

* Route 253 (Port Republic Road), eastbound and westbound – Left lane closure for median work between Harrisonburg city limits and Route 726 (Stone Spring Road). Monday –Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Estimated completion August 1, 2013.

* Route 259 – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Wednesday and Friday.

 

Secondary Roads

* Route 617 (Church Street, Town of Timberville) – Utility upgrades with intermittent lane  closures controlled by flaggers between Route 42 and Route 1521 (East Riverside Drive). Monday to Wednesday and Friday, 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Estimated completion end of summer.

* Route 620 (Mountain Valley Road) – Road closure for bridge replacement over War Branch. Traffic will detour via Route 798 (Arkton Road) to Route 11 (Lee Highway) to Route 608 (Mauzy Athlone Road). Work zone is 0.55 miles north of Route 620 (Mountain Valley Road) and Route 608 (Mauzy Athlone Road) and 1.85 miles south of Route 620 and Route 798 (Arkton Road).  Estimated completion July 12, 2013.

* Route 672 (Pineville Road) – Road closed to through traffic from McGaheysville Road to Lawyer Road (1.275 miles) for road demolition and reconstruction. One lane will remain open for property owners and residents. No through traffic. Expect delays. Estimated completion September 2013.

* Route 727 (Airport Road) – Bridge work from Route 11 (Lee Highway) to Route 696 (Kisers Road). Road closed until further notice.  Estimated completion December 6, 2013.

* Route 918 (Mill Street) will be temporarily closed to traffic from the Route 11 (South Main Street) intersection as part of the bridge replacement work on Route 11 and Route 727 (Airport Road).  Route 918 can be accessed from Route 867 (Old Bridgewater Road). Estimated completion Dec. 6, 2013.

* Various roads – Utility tree trimming. Flagger control during daylight hours. Monday to Wednesday and Friday.

 

 

PAGE COUNTY

Primary Roads

* (UPDATE) Route 340 – New traffic pattern as part of the bridge construction work over Compton Creek and Norfolk Southern Railway. Traffic will be routed onto new section of roadway, 0.1 mile south of Route 663 (Island Ford Road) to 0.16 mile south of Route 662 (Compton Hollow Road). Traffic pattern change will take place Monday, July 1. Estimated completion for bridge work is fall 2013.

* Various roads – Utility tree trimming with flagger traffic control during daylight hours. Monday to Wednesday and Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

 

Secondary Roads

* Route 615, various locations – Paving with flagger controlled traffic.  Estimated completion October 2013.

* Route 654, various locations – Paving with flagger controlled traffic.  Estimated completion October 2013.

* Route 686 (Smeltzer’s Road) – Compton Creek/Norfolk Southern Railroad Bridge project. New alignment of Route 340 (Stonewall Jackson Memorial Highway). Intersection of Route 686 (Smeltzer’s Road) and Route 340, from 0.24 miles south of the intersection of Route 662 (Compton Hollow Road) at Route 340, is permanently closed. A cul-de-sac will be constructed at the west end of Route 686. Motorists wishing to access Route 686 will need to turn off of Route 340 onto Route 662 and travel 0.26 miles east on Route 662 to Route 686. Signs will be posted.

* Various roads – Pipe cleaning with flagger traffic control. Monday to Wednesday and Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

* Various roads – Utility tree trimming with flagger traffic control during daylight hours. Monday to Wednesday and Friday, 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

 

 

SHENANDOAH COUNTY

Interstate 81

* Various locations – Guardrail upgrades with daytime shoulder closures. Occasional nighttime lane closures. Monday to Wednesday and Friday, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. Estimated completion Jan 14, 2014.

Primary Roads

* Route 11 at Route 42 (Town of Woodstock) – New intersection construction of East Reservoir Road and Route 11. Flagger controlled traffic  9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 5 a.m., Monday – Friday. Estimated completion May 2014.

* Various roads – Shoulder work. Monday to Wednesday and Friday.

 

Secondary Roads

* Route 629 – Paving from intersection of Route 11 (Old Valley Pike) to intersection at Main Street. Monday to Wednesday and Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Estimated completion November 2013.

* (NEW) Route 637 (Powhatan Road) – closed until Monday, July 1 at 5:30 p.m. for railroad crossing replacement. The work zone is from 0.5 miles south of Route 55 to 0.86 miles south of Route 55. Motorists can use the following detours: Southbound traffic will travel east on Route 55, south on Route 11, west on West King Street, north on Franklin Street and west on Junction Road to the end of the detour.

* (UPDATE) Route 645 (Old School House Drive) – Road closed for culvert replacement, 0.25 miles south of Route 654 and 0.30 miles north of Route 657 (Maurertown area). Northbound traffic will detour north on Route 645 (Old School House Drive) to west on Route 654 (Zion Church Road) then back to Route 11 (Old Valley Pike). Southbound traffic will detour south on Route 645 (Old School House Drive) to west on Route 654 (Zion church Road) then back to Route 11 (Old Valley Pike). Estimated completion July 26, 2013.

* (NEW) Route 691 (Dellinger Acres Road) – closed for bridge replacement. The affected portion of the road is from 1.75 miles east of Route 717 to 0.95 miles west of Route 705. Estimated completion is Friday, July 12, 2013.Westbound traffic wil detour south on Route 705 (Buggy Ridge Road), west on Route 703 (Jerome Road), north on Route 611 (Supinlick Ridge Road), north on Route 717 (Liberty Furnace Road) to end of detour at Route 691. Eastbound traffic will detour south on Route 717 (Liberty Furnace Road), south on Route 611 (Supinlick Ridge Road) to east on Route 703 (Jerome Road), north on Route 705 (Buggy Ridge Road) to end of detour at Route 691.

* Route 850 – Paving from Route 629 to dead end. Monday to Wednesday and Friday, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Estimated completion November 2013.

* Various roads – Brush cutting and pipe replacements. Monday to Wednesday and Friday.

 

 

FREDERICK COUNTY

Interstate 81

* Various locations – Guardrail upgrades with daytime shoulder closures. Occasional nighttime lane closures. Monday to Wednesday and Friday, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. Estimated completion Jan 14, 2014.

 

Primary Roads

* (NEW) Route 7 – Cleaning of bridge over I-81. Lane closures as needed, controlled by flaggers or message boards. Monday to Wednesday and Friday, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.

* (NEW) Route 17 – Cleaning of bridges over Opequon Creek. Lane closures as needed, controlled by flaggers or message boards. Monday to Wednesday and Friday, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.

* (NEW) Route 37 – Cleaning of bridges at various locations. Lane closures as needed, controlled by flaggers or message boards. Monday to Wednesday and Friday, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.

* Route 37, southbound ramp to Route 622 – Flagger traffic control during daylight hours for installation of new traffic signal. Estimated completion August 2013.

* (NEW) Route 55 – Cleaning of bridge over Cedar Creek. Lane closures as needed, controlled by flaggers or message boards. Monday to Wednesday and Friday, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.

* (NEW) Route 277 – Cleaning of bridge over I-81. Lane closures as needed, controlled by flaggers or message boards. Monday to Wednesday and Friday, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Secondary Roads

* (NEW) Various roads – surface treatment from Monday, July 1 to Friday, July 12, 2013.

* Various roads – Patching and ditch work. Monday to Wednesday and Friday.

* (NEW) Various roads – Bridge cleaning. Lane closures as needed, controlled by flaggers or message boards. Monday to Wednesday and Friday, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.

CLARKE COUNTY

Primary Roads

* (NEW) Route 50 – Alternating lane closures for guardrail replacement. Work zone is 0.11 miles west of  Frederick County line to Route 665. Monday to Wednesday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Secondary Roads

No lane closures reported.

 

WARREN COUNTY

Interstate 66

* (NEW) Mile marker 6-7, eastbound and westbound – Single-lane and shoulder closures for bridge inspection at Crooked Run. Tuesday, July 2 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

Interstate 81

No lane closures reported.

Primary Roads

* (UPDATE) Route 340 from Page County Line to Route 737 — Milling and paving operations, Monday to Wednesday and Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Flagger traffic control with pilot vehicles. Estimated completion July 2013.

* Various roads – Brush cutting. Monday to Wednesday and Friday.

 

Secondary Roads

* Route 613 (Indian Hollow Road) – Replacement of low-water bridge over South Fork Shenandoah River. Work zone is from Route 628 to 0.35 miles north. Traffic controlled by flaggers Monday to Wednesday and Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Expect minor delays. Estimated completion October 2014.

* (NEW) Various roads – Utility tree trimming. Flagger traffic control during daylight hours. Monday to Wednesday and Friday.

* Various roads – Mowing and pipe cleaning. Monday to Wednesday and Friday.

 

Vegetation management may occur district wide on various routes.

Motorists are reminded to use extreme caution when traveling through work zones.
