VDOT Highland County career fair set for Wednesday

vdot-logoThe Virginia Department of Transportation is partnering with Highland County Public Schools to offer a transportation and community career fair.

The event on Wednesday, October 12, will showcase career opportunities from more than 30 employers. It is scheduled for 9 a.m. to noon in the gymnasium of Highland High School, 244 Myers-Moon Road, Monterey.

Highland County students from kindergarten to twelfth grade will take part in the career fair. Several pieces of VDOT heavy equipment will be on display for students to examine, and on-site staff will be available to answer questions.

VDOT will staff booths with employees from the following career disciplines:

  • Administrative Management
  • Materials including Asphalt & Concrete Management
  • Biology & Environmental Sciences
  • Civil Engineering
  • Civil Rights
  • Construction
  • Highway Maintenance
  • Human Resources
  • Public Relations
  • Traffic Engineering
  • Vehicle Management and Repair

Other participants in the event include community colleges, local and state government agencies and private businesses from the Shenandoah Valley and Alleghany Highlands. Career opportunities range from physical and speech therapy, banking and finance, medical services and emergency responders.
