uva baseballUVA baseball relief pitcher Mack Meyer (San Francisco, Calif.) signed a minor league contract with the San Francisco Giants and has reported to the club’s Class A short season affiliate, Salem-Keizer Volcanoes.

Meyer, a graduate transfer from the University of San Francisco, appeared in 23 games out of the bullpen in his lone season with Cavaliers in 2018. He sported a 3.70 ERA in 24.1 innings pitched. The sidearmer pitched in two of the team’s seven shutouts and also tossed an inning of scoreless relief the program’s sixth no-hitter on Feb. 28 against William & Mary.

He appeared in 14 Atlantic Coast Conference games and struck out 11 batters in 14 innings of work.

In his four-year collegiate career, Meyer pitched in 85 games and amassed a total of 94.1 innings on the mound, all in relief.

Meyer adds to the growing list of Cavaliers in professional baseball after six were drafted in the 2018 MLB Draft. A total of 26 former UVA players are active in minor league baseball while six are currently playing in the majors.
