UVA football coach Mike London was asked at his Monday press conference about his job status. As he has all season when asked about his future, London sidestepped the question.
“My biggest focus is on this team and during opportunity for this game against Miami,” London said. “That’s all I concern myself with. As I said, this team has been competitive, improved, and now the next opportunity to show how much of an improvement coming out of a Florida State game is this Saturday. So that’s all I concern myself with.”
Virginia (4-6, 2-4 ACC) enters the game with Miami (6-4, 3-3 ACC) on a four-game losing streak. With the four losses since the 4-2 start at the midway point to the season, the Cavs have still maintained a solid ranking in the ESPN Power Index, this week ranked at #46 after reaching a high of #41 after the 24-19 win over Pitt on Oct. 4 pushed the season record to 4-2.
UVA finishes the 2014 season with games against Miami (ranked 22nd in the Power Index) and Virginia Tech (5-5, 2-4 ACC, #41 in the Power Index).
A followup question to the one about his job status asked London about how it seems that the team is a couple of plays away from another 2-3 wins.
“You always look at things that if it could have, should have, would have – the bottom line is they didn’t occur,” London said. “Football is always a game of four or five plays away. Again, this is a season for us, outside of the Georgia Tech game, that bounces here or there, and we’re looking at a different set of circumstances. But the reality is we are where we are right now. The only thing we can control now is the next two games, and the most important game of the next is the next game that’s coming up, again, against a very good Miami team.”
