Tim Kaine statement on President Obama’s UN address

kaine new2Today, U.S. Senator Tim Kaine, a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee and Chairman of the Foreign Relations Subcommittee on Near Eastern and South and Central Asian Affairs, released a statement following President Obama’s address to the United Nations General Assembly.

Today President Obama challenged the world to join the effort to degrade and destroy ISIL and called on world leaders to root out extremism and sectarianism in their own countries. And while the United States will not submit to threats, the U.S. should not take on this mission alone. I applaud the President’s efforts to build a strong, multinational coalition to defeat ISIL and look forward to a full Senate debate on U.S. military action so that it receives the Congressional authorization contemplated in the Constitution.  We owe that to the troops we order to carry out the airstrike campaign.”
