UVa. rallies in 11th to nip W&M
Freshman Mike Papi (Tunkhannock, Pa.) hit a two-run walk-off single in the 11th inning to propel the Virginia baseball team to a 6-5 victory over William and Mary Tuesday in front of 2,598 fans at Davenport Field. UVa (2-1-1) also rallied from a 4-0 deficit in the eighth inning to send the game to extra innings.
William & Mary (2-2) scored a run on a UVa error in the top of the 11th, but Virginia came back in the bottom of the inning. Chris Taylor (Jr., Virginia Beach, Va.) hit a leadoff single and Mitchell Shifflett (So., Midlothian, Va.) walked. Stephen Bruno (Jr., Audubon, N.J.) laid down a sacrifice bunt to move both runners in scoring position, and Papi ripped the 3-2 pitch over the drawn-in infield into right field, with Shifflett touching home plate with his left hand just before the tag of catcher Chris Forsten. Tribe outlasts Richmond

Freshman shortstop Mike Small had three hits and three RBI and senior RF Mike Mergenthaler launched his first career grand-slam home run, but a 10th inning homer from Jonathan Slattery was the difference as William & Mary beat Richmond, 9-8, Wednesday at Pitt Field.
Slattery stroked his first home run of the season – a game-winning solo shot over the left-center field fence with one out in the 10th, after Richmond tied the game in the seventh at 8-8 thanks to Phil Ruzbarsky’s sacrifice fly. Read more
Tribe holds off NSU rally

William & Mary jumped out to a 4-0 lead, then held off a late-inning charge from host Norfolk State to take a 6-5 victory on Wednesday afternoon at Marty L. Miller Field.
The Tribe (11-13) led 4-0 after the top of the fourth, but NSU (7-14) rallied to get within 6-5 in the later innings. The Tribe win wasn’t secure until W&M reliever Brett Koehler dodged a bases-loaded jam in the bottom of the ninth. Read more
William and Mary beats Duke, 7-4

Jonathan Slattery tagged three doubles, scored twice and drove in two RBI to lead William & Mary past Duke 7-4 on Wednesday afternoon at Plumeri Park and end the Blue Devils’ four-game winning streak.
Slattery doubled and scored in his first two at bats and then came through with a two-out, two-strike double in the bottom of the eighth that increased the William & Mary lead to three runs. The Tribe (4-11) finished with five doubles for the game and scored four of their runs with two outs. Read more
