SMAC wins age group state title for fifth year in a row

The Shenandoah Marlins Aquatic Club won the small team state championship for the fifth year in a row March 8-11 in Christiansburg.

The age group state championship is comprised of the fastest 14-and-younger swimmers who have met the qualifying times for the most competitive meet in Virginia. It is a great accomplishment just to be able to attend this meet. SMAC had their work cut out for them as a few of their perennial high point scorers (Remedy Rule & Jessie Arnold) had turned 15 and moved into the senior swimming division.  Read more

SMAC’s Rule wins high point award at Senior State Champs

The Shenandoah Marlins Aquatic Club competed in the Virginia Swimming Senior State Championships in Christiansburg March 1-4.

The meet has the toughest qualifying standards of all the swim meets in Virginia and is the fastest meet of the year at the state level.  The meet is geared for swimmers 15-18 years old, but anyone who qualifies is eligible to participate and each year there are several 13- and 14-year-olds as well as several 30-year-olds competing.    Read more

Elevations All Stars take VCU by storm

The Elevations All-Stars were not worried about the snow; they were worried about hitting amazing routines against tough competition at the Cheer and Dance Extreme competition in Richmond this past weekend.

They started the morning early with their Tiny Imagine squad consisting of 3- to 5-year-old cheerleaders. The Mini Dreams (ages 6-9) had an excellent performance taking home fourth place. Read more

SMAC competes at District Swim Meet in Roanoke

The Shenandoah Marlins Aquatic Club, which practices at the Waynesboro Y, competed in the Virginia Swimming District Championships in Roanoke Virginia Feb. 17-19.

The meet was open to all swimmers in the Southwest District in Virginia. The meet is geared for younger swimmers (14 and under) and swimmers who are trying to obtain qualifying times to be eligible to compete in the Regional Meet the following weekend or the State Championship Meet in early March.  Read more

Media General explores sales of newspapers

Media General announced on Wednesday that it is exploring the sale of its newspaper operations, including the Waynesboro-based News Virginian.

The Richmond-based company said it has received inquiries from third parties regarding the potential sale of its newspapers. Media General’s newspapers include The Richmond Times-Dispatch, The (Charlottesville) Daily Progress and The (Lynchburg) News and Advance. Read more

Singer/songwriter Eileen Edmonds at WTA’s Gateway

The popular folk-singer/songwriter Eileen Edmonds will appear at WTA’s Gateway on Friday, March 2.

Edmonds, a lifetime resident of the Commonwealth of Virginia, is an accomplished Music Educator, Performing Songwriter and Recording Artist. She is known for her passion for collaborating and has spent years producing, performing and writing with bands.  She has toured extensively throughout the Northeastern, Mid Atlantic and Southeastern United States and has shared the stage with such great talents as Roger McGuinn, Joan Baez and Dr. Ralph Stanley. Waynesboro Cultural Commission announces writers’ workshops

Always wanted to write?  Or perhaps you’re a veteran writer who would like to improve your writing, try a new genre, or meet other writers. The Cultural Commission workshops are designed to give you an understanding of three types of expression, each with an accomplished mentor. All workshops are free and open to the public.
