After a slow start on the defensive end of the field, the VMI lacrosse held strong in the second half, but could not undo a 10-goal first half by the Navy Midshipmen, falling 14-7 in the 2012 season opener.

Siena ends VMI lax season with loss

The VMI lacrosse team concluded its 2011 campaign with an 18-9 defeat against the Siena Saints Saturday, April 30 in Loudonville, N.Y. Drew Leonard scored five goals in the contest, which also marked the final game in the careers of VMI’s pair of departing seniors, Bobby Davis and Lowell Patterson. Jacksonville edges VMI men's lax

Despite four goals from juniors Drew Leonard and Tyler Griffith and a season-high 50 shots, the Keydets were defeated 13-12 on by the Jacksonville Dolphins Sunday, April 24 at VMI’s Foster Stadium. The day also honored VMI’s pair of seniors, Bobby Davis and Lowell Patterson, each of whom played their final home game of the Keydet careers.

The Keydets (2-10, 0-5 MAAC) won the ground ball battled between the No. 1 and No. 3 ground ball teams in the country, taking the category by a 50-31 margin. Junior Stephen Robarge was responsible for 15 pickups to tie him for second in program history in ground balls in a game, and was also 23-of-29 on faceoffs in the contest. VMI lax falls to Canisius

The Keydets fell behind 4-0 to the Canisius Golden Griffins in the first 10 minutes of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) contest Saturday, April 9 at Foster Stadium, but VMI but rallied back to close the to 5-4 at the end of the first quarter. However, the Golden Griffins shutout the Keydets in second quarter 3-0 to build an 8-4 lead and never looked back, defeating VMI 13-9 on Wounded Warrior Project Day. VMI lax falls to Manhattan

The VMI lacrosse team was defeated 16-10 by the Manhattan Jaspers Saturday, March 26 at VMI’s Foster Stadium in MAAC conference action.

The Keydets trailed 6-5 at the half, but were outscored 8-3 in the third quarter of action in the defeat. VMI trailed 11-9 with nearly 20 minutes left in the contest, but were unable to overcome the third quarter deficit. Junior Drew Leonard led the Keydet scoring attack for the fourth-straight contest with four scores for the Keydets, while classmate Tyler Griffith also chipped in a pair of scores. VMI lax drops decision to Mount St. Mary's

The VMI Keydets were defeated 21-7 in a non-conference matchup against the Mount St. Mary’s Mountaineers 21-7 on Tuesday, March 22 at VMI’s Foster Stadium. Four of VMI’s seven goals were scored by junior Drew Leonard in the best individual output on offense of the season for the Keydets in defeat, while classmate Colin Bosse chipped in a pair of scores. Keydets falls to Detroit in men's lax

After trailing 9-3 at the half, the Keydets fought back within four goals with 14:21 left to play, but were unable to close the distance, falling to the Detroit Titans 13-9 Saturday, March 16 at Titan Field in the conference opener for both schools. Junior Keith Long and freshman Mickey Hofmeister led the charge on offense for the Keydets with four points each, while junior Stephen Robarge was 20-of-24 on faceoffs and had a game-high 14 groundballs.

VMI lax posts win over Presbyterian

Junior Keith Long had three goals and four assists while freshman Mickey Hofmeister added a pair of goals and five assists as the VMI Keydets defeated the Presbyterian College Blue Hose 15-9 Sat., March 12 at VMI’s Foster Stadium. Hofmeister’s five assists mark the third-highest total in program history, while eight other Keydets scored on the contest in the teams second victory of the season. Anken named new VMI head lacrosse coach

Brian Anken has been named the new head coach of VMI lacrosse.

“We are excited to move forward in our lacrosse program with the hiring of Brian Anken,” athletics director Donny White said. “He has proven himself to be a winner at both Mars Hill and Lycoming. We desire to compete for a conference championship and I feel Coach Anken will put our program in a position to do that.”

“It’s a tremendous honor to become a part of the VMI family,” Anken said. “VMI is a special place that expects excellence both on and off the field, and offers one of the most unique lacrosse experiences in the country.
