#21 UVa. makes it two in a row against Georgia Tech
The No. 21 Virginia baseball team won its 10th-consecutive game Saturday, downing Georgia Tech, 4-2, at Davenport Field. Virginia (34-14-1, 16-10 ACC) won its seventh-straight ACC contest and clinched its third-consecutive ACC series victory.
Pitching ruled the day on both sides, with each team finishing with just six hits. Virginia’s bullpen tossed five scoreless innings and ran its ACC scoreless innings streak to 37.2 straight innings. Read more
#21 Cavs dig long ball, nip Jackets
Brandon Downes (Fr., South Plainfield, N.J.) singled home Jared King (R-Jr., Radford, Va.) with one out in the eighth inning to lift the No. 21 Virginia baseball team to a 6-5 win over Georgia Tech Friday night in the opener of a three-game series at Davenport Field. Virginia (33-14-1, 15-10 ACC) notched its ninth-consecutive win, including its sixth straight in ACC play, and in doing so clinched a berth in the 2012 ACC Baseball Championship, slated for May 23-27 in Greensboro, N.C.
Half of Virginia’s eight hits came via home runs. The Cavaliers’ four home runs were most by a Virginia team since May 1, 2010, when UVa hit four at Duke, and it was the most home runs by the Cavaliers at Davenport Field since March 3, 2002, when UVa hit four against Seton Hall. Read more
#21 UVa. blows past High Point, 12-3
The No. 21 Virginia baseball team shook off the rust of an eight-day layoff for final exams by rolling to a 12-3 victory over High Point Wednesday evening at a soggy Davenport Field.
The win extended Virginia’s winning streak to a season-high eight games. UVa (32-14-1) posted a four-run third inning and a six-run seventh inning in a game which started one hour, 57 minutes late because of rain. Read more
#22 UVa. finishes sweep at #21 Miami
The No. 22 Virginia baseball team finished off a three-game series sweep of No. 21 Miami with a 7-4 victory Monday evening Alex Rodriguez Park at Mark Light Field in Coral Gables, Fla. The Cavaliers (31-14-1, 14-10 ACC) secured their first series sweep against the Hurricanes (27-17, 12-12).
Virginia has won a season-high seven-consecutive games as it enters an eight-day break for final exams. UVa also has captured five straight in ACC play with back-to-back road series wins at Duke and Miami. Read more
#25 UVa. makes it two in a row at #15 Miami
Shane Halley (Sr., Burke, Va.) pitched six scoreless innings of relief and held No. 15 Miami at bay as the No. 25 Virginia baseball team rallied from an early 4-0 deficit to claim a 7-4 win over the Hurricanes Sunday evening at Alex Rodriguez Park at Mark Light Field in Coral Gables, Fla.
Winners of six-consecutive games, Virginia (30-14-1, 13-10 ACC) clinched its third straight series win over Miami (27-16, 12-11). Read more
#25 UVa. wins game one of series at #15 Miami, 7-3
The No. 25 Virginia baseball team scored five times in the sixth inning to erase a one-run deficit and top No. 15 Miami, 7-3, in the opener of a three-game series at a soggy Alex Rodriguez Park at Mark Light Field in Coral Gables, Fla. The win was Virginia’s fifth in a row and its third straight in ACC play.
Derek Fisher (Fr., Rexmont, Pa.), Colin Harrington (Jr., Johnstown, Pa.) and Keith Werman (Sr., Vienna, Va.) each recorded two hits for Virginia (29-14-1, 12-10 ACC). Read more
#25 UVa. rallies with three in the ninth to top VCU
Derek Fisher (Fr., Rexmont, Pa.) cranked a long two-run home run with one out in the ninth inning to break a 5-5 tie and lift the No. 25 Virginia baseball team to a 7-5 win at VCU Wednesday night at The Diamond in Richmond, Va. UVa trailed 5-4 heading into the ninth but tied the game on a Stephen Bruno (Jr., Audubon, N.J.) double just before Fisher’s heroics.
The win also was the 400th in the coaching career of Virginia head coach Brian O’Connor. He needed just nine seasons to reach the 400-win plateau and now holds a career record of 400-144-2. Read more
